A sad sad story... The latest victim of the dreaded crankwalk...

Yeah... My DSM blows right now... I've got everything I need to have an awesome setup on my car and it decides to go and crankwalk on me...

Anyone have a complete 6 bolt for sale?

I'll have lots of 7 bolt parts for sale if anyone needs them. Fortunatly enough, we caught the crankwalk before it ruined any of the pistons or rods... Hit me up for any parts you may need cause I need to get some cash to buy a new motor now. :(

R.I.P. 7 bolt... (no wonder it ran so damn good before I tore it apart again. lol :icon16: )

are you 100% sure? Have you measured crankshaft end play? I've seen plenty of times where people were convinced it was crankwalk when it was something else.

.0015 of play in it... We could grab the end of the crank and move it and hear it hitting from side to side within it.

sorry to hear than man...miles on the engine? ever rebuilt? I'll see if I need any 7 bolt stuff

About 105k miles, never rebuilt... I'm not even gonna play around with another stock motor, I'm gonna get myself a 6 bolt and build it to handle whatever I throw at it.

very rare for a 7bolt to get that high in mileage and THEN walk

what weight and oil was used? oil changed religiously? clutch start switch disabled?

I've owned it since 65k miles and I ran 10w-30 amsoil in it and always changed it on time... The clutch switch was disabled... Who knows... All I know is I gotta be at work in 10 hours, I'm sick as hell, and both of my cars are dead... Lets not forget the fact that my gf is flipping out about it all because she didn't get to see me tonight... I'm seriously completely stressed and ready to kill somebody...

It fucking sucks... :(

I'm in Northeat Ohio but will drive pretty far for a cheap 6 bolt thats complete. lol

I just got raised from part time to full time on my new job and I should be bringing home about 1500 a month... Should be plenty to build my 6 bolt by summertime.

About how much has it costed you guys with 6 bolt swaps to have their internals all built?... I donno if I will need to do anything to the head or not though... I'm still trying to figure out how much this will all cost me. My new goal has been raised to running 11's :grinyes:

I wanna make sure I compile a list of every part I will need to build a monsterous motor and do it all right the first time. I wanna build a reliable monster and keep it as my daily driver.

Suggestions from anyone? I was gonna o-ring my head but my one buddy told me not to and that a steel head gasket should be good for at least 30psi... I'm thinking the most I'll be running is about 25-28psi...

I'm still trying to get the Firebird running and it keeps blowing out coolant lines everywhere and I'm not sure why. I put a new thermostat in it with a thermostat housing gasket/o-ring and it is still blowing out there too. Any ideas on that piece of junk?

could be a bad head gasket pushing compression into the coolant. If I was you I'd stroke it

True, mine had 133k on it before i decided to rebuild and has no signs of cranwalk when i measured endplay before tear down.

133k and only had .004 endplay, now with new stuff in her i measured only .002 :grinyes: very happy

ok so now I'm confused, Blackcrow said his crankshaft had .0015 of play but talon69 said his had .004 before and now its down to .002 which both numbers are higher?

I think blackcrow meant .015. If you dont have a 6 bolt by the midwest meet, I'll bet that we can find someone to bring one to the meet and someone from Illinois or Michigan can get it back that far for you. I think you should be able to stroke it for ~$1300-$1600 depending on the deals you get and like $200-$400 less for a 2.0 setup.

ok that makes more sense

Yeah, sorry I was at work all day and didn't have a chance to catch up on this thread... Isn't 15 thousandths .0015?... Or is it .015? My math skills are lacking since high school was so long ago. :icon16:

Ahhh, alrighty... In that case it was .015 lol.

I got a new heater switch valve and a thermostat for the firebird and thought it was gonna be ok until I saw a ton of coolant coming from the top of the motor underneath the intake manifold... It turns out that instead of blowing a head gasket it must have cracked the top of the thermostat housing... Soooo I'm hoping tomorrow morning autozone will have one in stock when I go in. I gotta get that thing running for work tomorrow... Damn I'm hating cars so bad right now...

anyone remember my problem that I had, well I'm going to check crankshaft end play just incase(crosses fingers) what is the tolerances?

It looks like I am going to have a stock used JDM six-bolt in my '95 for a little over $2000. It could be less but I have bought some extras for the install.:naughty:
