the engine is not getting enough power to run oil pump their fore oil light comes on. i have the same problem. just try changing oil if u havent changed it in a while. i would not really worry about it if it just flickers than goes out but if it is on while driving i would worry. if u want u can check the sensor.

thanks i will try that. though i'm about 1500 miles into the last oil change. someone else said it is probably an oil pump, but i've also heard that if the engine starts losing oil pressure like that... i might need to get a new engine. what do you think about that mess?

The only way you're gonna need a whole new engine is if the pump fails (stop lubricating the engine) and causes serious internal damage.

My car had this. Ended up being the oil pressure sensor. This cheap plastic thing that plugged into the aluminum head. I have a 2.3 quad 4 though, so I'm not sure where your car would have that. Just wore out and there was oil leaking out of it. Messy, but for 12 bucks I wasn't complaining. Just a thought to try.

thanks man, i'll try that. 12 bucks seems like a better deal than a new engine. it is a least worth a try!!!!!!
