I recently bought a1992 500 SEL, nice car. When I drive it, it bouces and bangs from the potholes. I had the mechanic look at the shocks and he said that they were fine,if they are not leaking they are fine.The ride is horrible! Can someone give me a suggestion?

Check with another mechanic.. That car should ride like its on air.. It might not be leaking, because there is nothing left to leak out... When you stand away from the car does it look like it is lower in the front or back ?? If it does, thats what needs to be replaced.. Also try to avaoid the potholes if worse comes to worse :)

Most likely the gas chambers for the self leveling suspension. Have them check those first, you should be able to push a small screwdriver blade in the chamber more than 4", if it stops short replace both. About 250.00-400.00 parts plus labor.

the bang at the same time as the bounce is the wore out swivel joint at the bottom of the self leveling shock(s) take one off and check it out
