I purchased an IAC at Auto Zone. It looks nothing like the one on my Jeep. I have a 96 Grand Cherokee 4WD with a 5.2L. The part number is AC305 by Wells. Even the connector doesn't look like it fits. Should I take it back and get a Mopar?

That seems to be the right part, thats the right part # for the IAC on my 94 ZJ 5.2L.

Are you sure you are looking at the right part on your jeep.

The IAC is located on the back of the throttle body toward the firewall, Has a 4-wire electrical connector.

P.S... Be sure to disconnect the battery before removing/replacing the IAC Valve.

I thought the IAC was on the power steering side of the throttle body. The wire's not labeled and there's a sensor next to it labeled MAP. The connectors don't seem to match.

Anyway it might not be my problem. I changed the PCV valve, cleaned the throttle body and tightened the battery connection and my idle smoothed out. After power washing the engine my idle seems to start out higher in the morning (800RPM) before settling down to normal (450-500). And it's not cold here in the mornings (about 60).

I think you might be referring to the TPS (THrottle POsition Sensor) it is located on the opposite side of the throttle bracket (where all the cables connect to the Throttle Body).

You're right. The IAC is on the rear of the throttle body. My bad idle showed up again so I'm going to replace the IAC and see what happens. The other day at a stop light my idle started swinging from about 300 to 600 and almost stalling. This problem is intermittent but very annoying. I hope the IAC fixes it. If not I guess I'll take it to the shop. SJ

Well I changed the IAC and my idle improved somewhat. Sometimes when the Jeep warms up I sometimes get a small waivering on the tach (5 RPMs). Other times at a stoplight I get a wide variation of RPMs (from 500-0-500) and almost stall. I wonder if the coil might be bad like a guy had in another thread. Oh well I probably should have replaced the coil when I replaced the belt tensioner. SJ

I had the same problem. had a rough idle and close to stalling at a stop. when it got over 1000 rpms it ran perfect. i had a tune up, changed tps,iac alsobut it still idled rough. when i floored the gas pedal it was popping and hesitant as if it wasnt getting fuel or spark fast enough. I changed the coil ($30) and it ran like new again. try the coil before taking it to a shop.

Ignition coil did the trick. Thanks for the advice. I replaced the phillips bolts with allen bolts though. I can't believe they'd use phillips. I stripped one of them and had to take it off with vice grips. SJ

I did the same thing, replaced with bolts and had to take the screws out with vice grips also.

I have had numerous problems as you may see from other posts, but I thought it was probaly time to change my IAC since I took it out and it was really corroded black. I was having a short "hiccup" on idle at stop and in driving gears, so I figure it couldn't hurt.

Well, I put the new one on Friday afternoon (disconnected the battery) and now it is running worse than ever. Just doesn't seem like it wants to "settle" itself down.

When parked and tranny in P, on 15 second intervals, the TAC will go from about 800 to 1000 back to 800 then down to 500 or so almost stalling and then back to around 800. 15 seconds and it starts all over again.

Given the fact that this is a brand new IAC (GP Sorenson 779-10153 from Advance Auto Parts) is this an indication of something else or should I just clean my old IAC and re-install it?

Review: I recently have a new TPS, plugs, wires, cap (old rotor button), coil, fuel filter, Cat Converter and CPS (Possibly still causing Random Mult Cylinder Misfires).
