major transmission and engie problems.my1993camryxle 03-15-2006, 04:38 PM i have a 94 4cyl camry. my car was stolen in 2005 and by the time it was recovered, the transmission was burned out. (The car wouldn't shift past 2nd gear.) I had the tranny rebuilt and the car was fine for about a week. one day the car began to slow down while i was driving. after rolling to a stop, i realised that the car would only move in reverse. Tranny fluid is fine. Is the possibly a torque converter problem? The car sat in my garage for about 3 months before i ever started it again. Now, The car seems to stumble while idling and there is also black smoke coming from tail pipe. HLP ME PLEASE!!!!:shakehead Toysrme 03-16-2006, 05:28 AM Unlikely a torque convertor problem. I've never experianced, nor heard of a torque convertor problem for any of the camry / Toyota fwd transmissions. Black smoke is fuel. Check that you have goo spark across the cylinders, then check the fuel supply is good (Injector problems are exceedingly rare on Denso injectors.) Once the engine is running, re-check transmission fluid level, check the kick-down cable, and check the transmissin line pressure itself. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
