Do NOT Rev if you can't back it up!nemesls_2000 07-04-2002, 10:14 PM I'm sick and tired of fucking people coming up and revving on me every single day, only to have me stomp the shit out of them and watch their car get smaller and smaller in my rear view mirror. If you think you have a fast car and you want to be a cocky dickhead by revving up your engine to every car you come up to at a redlight, try to at least win. 1 month ago: I pull up to a redlight on my way to work. This guy pulls up in his new blue Celica GT-S w/ graphics and shit all over his windshield. His girlfriend is in the passenger seat and another guy is in the back. I am minding my own businesss and all of a sudden he is revving on me hard and looking over and smiling. He is acting like a total show-off jackass, especially since he doesn't know that he is revving on a hatch w/ a GSR. The light turns green, I take off and he is falling a little behind. I shift into 2nd and there is no chance of him catching up. We stop again at the next light and there are cars in front of us. I look over at him and this guy won't even glance at me! Last week: It is about 12:30am and I'm coming back from playing pool. My friend Jonathon is w/ me and he notices a black Jetta on the road ahead of us. He recognizes the guy from someone who works w/ him at the mall and says the guy is always bitching b/c he can't find anyone to race him. Tonight is his lucky night b/c I decide to give him his chance. He decides he wants to race and starts revving on me at the next light we get to. He still doesn't recognize Jonathon in my car. Anyway, the light turns green and I floor it. He gets a poor jump off the line and struggling hard to stay w/ in a car length of me. I swift to 2nd, he falls further behind, swift to third and he's about 5 car lengths behind. My hazards come on and I can see this motherfucker laughing in disgust through my rear view mirror. Ahh....another victory! Today: I'm on my way back from my lunch break from work and I take a left while spotting a 2003 Civic w/ an SiR badge on the front of his car waiting to pursue me at the redlight. We come to the stoplight and there is a cop that had just left and now he's about 200yds up the road. I decide not to race b/c of the cop and now this idiot beside me revs hard and starts spinning his tires. I fucking stomp it as the light turns green and take off. Thinking he was getting a better start even though I'm a little ahead, I blip the clutch, raise my rpms, then shift into 2nd. His front bumper is at my rear and shift into third and this race is over as I turn on my hazards b/c the cop is still in front of us. Morals of the story: Sure you can talk shit, but can you back it up? Not all hatches are slow, you just might pull up to one that has a lil somethin' somethin' under that hood! It's all about power to weight baby! Grendel 07-04-2002, 10:28 PM Heh, your car sounds pretty bad ass... I really don't get anyone revving at me because my car doesn't look that fast... To be honest, I can't find a race even when I go looking for them... I see tons of riced out civics and shit, but they are always going the other way :P I have only revved at a person once... it was some old guy in a mid '90s celica... he wouldn't even look over... I was doin it just to make my friend laugh... I know I probably would have won if he would have wanted to race tho :P -Grendel Polygon 07-04-2002, 10:38 PM Originally posted by Grendel To be honest, I can't find a race even when I go looking for them... I see tons of riced out civics and shit, but they are always going the other way :P You to? The exact same thing happens to me all the time, I rarely race anymore because I can't find anyone to race, and when I do find someone they aren't even formal about it, they don't rev their engine they just take off at the light. Good thing for me I always end up flying past them a ccouple of seconds later. That is the other sad thing, most of the cars I do race are all show and no go. :( Nice kills man! It's always fun to hand someone their ass when they weren't expecting it. Oh, and we better be careful about the Celica comments, we might start another flame war with the Toyota brigade. Grendel 07-04-2002, 10:54 PM Originally posted by Polygon Oh, and we better be careful about the Celica comments, we might start another flame war with the Toyota brigade. Lol the Toyota brigade... thats great :) I got nuthin against Celicas... I just wanted to try him... Stupid old people buy sporty cars just to drive 5 miles under the speed limit... *shrugs* -Grendel nemesls_2000 07-04-2002, 11:16 PM The guy in the blue Celica, MIGHT have been a GT and been posing w/ a GT-S emblem. I dunno, I didn't stick around too long to find out. BTW, my car dosn't look fast at all, it has coilovers, completely stock on the outside except for my exhaust. colechaney 07-04-2002, 11:28 PM I rev at punks in crapmaros and disgustangs. Cuz nuthin pisses those guys off worse than an import. My car isn't fast at all, but it was born to piss people off. The problem is I don't know what I can race, that doesn't really matter to much to me, but the cars that are lining up to me are big V8's, grand ams, etc. No intergra LS or civic come up and want to race. Grand am's bug me though. Are they fast? I know that they have 3 models one has 160HP and the others are 200+HP with 200+ torque. I know that some GMs have big numbers but they don't perform. Has anyone raced one. I'm going to try one someday. Please comment if you can. I used to be a V8 guy and we found faces all the time. I guess it will start to happen some time. Maybe I should just race ALL the cars for practice sake. I do notice old V8 mucle car guys in there 60s driving 442's, GTO's, and Chargers want to race all the time in my area. I figure they hate 4 cylinders and don't know to much about them. I just ignore them and they always launch regarless of my ignoring them. Then they drive away like kings of the road. Funny. Keeping the fun alive on the roads. Regards, Spotovi Polygon 07-05-2002, 02:20 PM Originally posted by spotovi Grand am's bug me though. Are they fast? Though they have the Grand Am GTP which is supercharged. I've never raced one of those but they are supposed to be pretty fast, they better be with a damn supercharged V6. I would hope they are producing mid to upper 200s with that kind of a powerplant. The last one I raced was a Grand Am GT with dual fart cans on the back. I passed him and he floored it to try to keep me from passing but I didn't even notice, I flew right by him. He then tried to tail me up this hill; I dropped it down a gear and left him in the dust. He seemed to be in the mood to race, but when we got into the city he had plenty of opportunities to race me at lights but he would pull in behind me or someone else rather than take the clear lane. I guess he lost his nerve. DeViL 07-05-2002, 02:26 PM Well the new Grand Ams I wouldn't say are quite good for racing. I think they are about 170 hp, ram air V6, but they just aren't safe. They have something with the steering that allows the car to turn incredibly good at lower speeds, and the steering starts to tighten up in higher speeds. I've never seen a front wheel drive car be able to go around curves like that thing could. Anyways like I said, the steering is real loose at low speeds. I've floored one of those things before from a light and the car seems like it loses a lot of traction and is about to swerve out. Not cool if I were to fix up a Grand Am it would be better off going with a 98 or something. Polygon 07-05-2002, 02:28 PM So they have a lot of torque steer? spotovi 07-05-2002, 03:06 PM I noticed Torque steer a little when I test drove a grand prix. They have great low end torque and rip the road up pretty good. I didn't like the plastic finish on everything, it was a litle too big for me and it was too Impala like. It was a neeto car though. High end cuts off a little and no manual trans at the time. Not sure if that changed. In any case it's very had to compare those type cars to integras and civic. They are very different. Regards, Spotovi YellowMaranello 07-05-2002, 03:24 PM Me and my bro don't rev at people... But we do piss them off. Whenever there is rice on the road, we will drive by them acting like we are going really fast. btw, we usually drive around in a stock 96 civic ex, just about the slowest car ever made, and we both know it. But we drive by with our heads pinned against the headrest and our arms out like we are trying to hold on for our dear lives. Now, we don't zoom by them and do this, we kind of creep up on them and slowly pull next to them, then throw it down a gear to make alot of noise so they look over. Most of the time they and up flooring it and trying to zoom away as fast as they can. And most of the time, zoom they do, because we also do it to mustangs and camaros and vettes. But its all in good fun, and good fun it is.:D HyOctane 07-05-2002, 03:25 PM (Not a flame war, please.. just comments. And I'm letting the Toyota bergade thing slide... ) I noticed a half way civil post going on and browsing through - so I decided to post my $ .02 (for whatever it is worth..). Nontheless - My experience from red light racing (per-se) is nothing special.. I have beaten many cars that I shouldnt have beat when I owned my old '96 Eclipse RS.. sad, you know ? It gave me a big head when I went out to the track with it.. and you know, it only ran 17's w/ bolt-on's - that was the sad part.. so stop light racing is BS IMHO. My experience with the Grand Prix GTP is so so.. there was one out at the local drag strip that was right beside me in staging - so we raced. To my surprise I won (15.1 sec) .. but that is just my experience.... The only thing I have to say is that the people who street race and think it really matters is that they need to get their head examened - there are ALOT of mis-badged cars (IE: Infamous Type-R badge), cars that "look fast" and should be fast, but are auto's, people don't realize that their/your racing untill AFTER you tear away.. and the simple fact is that it is mighty dangerous. Now don't flame me - I have raced on the street many times (red light racing) but you know.. sure it's an ego boost - but the real races happen on the track. So that is where I keep it.. but I agree, some people shouldn't be rev'ing their engines when they have no business to (like a Civic EX). Anyhow.. just my opinion... BTW nemesls_2000 - what happens to be the 1/4 time of your hybrid ? And what have you done.. ? HyOctane Polygon 07-05-2002, 03:49 PM Originally posted by HyOctane My experience with the Grand Prix GTP is so so.. there was one out at the local drag strip that was right beside me in staging - so we raced. If so, nice job. As for street racing, I find it fun for kicks and grins once and a while. I usually only race light to light with people, I don't care for people swerving in and out of traffic that kind of racing is best left on the track though I'll admit I have done it a few times. spotovi 07-05-2002, 03:58 PM You would think that these SC V6's would run 13s but I haven't seen a stock one do it before. The other SC V6, the Ford Thunderbird, I seen run a 15.5, 15.3. I thought they would run 13s. I was surprised. Could be a weight issue, maybe gearing as well. These cars are all autos right? Regards, Spotovi I can see them using AT but I would think that a MT would be an option, and the SC Grand Am weights just as much as the normal Grand Am's as far as I know. 15.5 is just pathetic from a SC V6 unless, like you said, it's a weight or gearing issue. Supercharged GTP's run mid to low 15's. 2000-early 2001 Celica GTS's with 6 speed can run 14.8-15.1 stock with a good driver. The late 2001-2002 models are known to run 15.4-15.5 with a good driver because the premature rev limiter takes you out of lift when you shift. He is always speeding by me on the main 6 lane road that goes through town after the car meets on Saturdays. One day when I got off of work I caught him at a light. Actually he was at the light after passing me and there was one car in front of me that was turning right. Well, you can't turn right when it is red. I'm kinda pissed waiting for this car to move. The light finally turns green the red hatch takes off. About 4 seconds later I fly by him and give him the deuces. These are the idiots that don't learn. I promise you this Saturday he'll be doing the same damn thing! Oh well, more kills for me! S2Corolla 07-10-2002, 11:48 AM Yeah b16 hatches are over-rated. There was this guy with a b18c swap and he beat a Corvette right in front of my eyes. All he had was a set of stocks with slicks, and i/h/e with a tach. I was like :eek2: And then afterwards this guy with a b16 hatch with the same mods but no slicks, SWORE he could tie up with the Corvette. I told him dude, don't race that guy you're going to make urself look bad. But he did, and he got whooped so bad. B16 hatches are quick don't get me wrong, they have mad potential, but SCC themselves had a B16 hatch with top of the line bolt ons and got a high 14 second time slip. B18C swaps with minor bolt on's, average driver on street tires are known to run low 14's right out of the shop. Mad potential. Yeah those Konig Toxxins will look phat powder coated. You have Toxxins just lying around? Dang I envy you even more! :D Hey when I get my next car you wanna run for kicks? All I can say is it beats S2000's but the engine will sound very familiar to you. StageOneGalant 07-10-2002, 11:59 AM I bet that guy in the Vette was pissed off.... was his Vette stock? probably... that is a nice kill for the kid in the civic. $hit that would be a NICE kill for any1....:flash: S2Corolla 07-10-2002, 12:03 PM Yeah it was stock, but it was a C5 6 speed Corvette. He beat the Civic once and then the Civic asked to run again and the Civic won. The Vette driver wanted another run and the Civic won again. I talk to the Vette owner a bit, he said he's in the process of trading the C5 in to get a Viper GTS. He said when he beat the Civic the first time he jumped the line and the hatchback was at his rear bumper the whole way down. If he gets a GTS I don't see any Civic's beating him for a while. nemesls_2000 07-11-2002, 01:07 PM My friend has a hatch w/ a GSR swap, i/h/e, skunk 2 im, and a 75 shot. He raced one of the c5 corvettes at the drag strip. The guy in the corvette was so amazed that the civic was ahead he almost ran into the guardrail. This hatch is probably the fastest one around where I live. There is another one w/ gsr w/ a supercharger, one w/ a b18b w/ a turbo, and mine. S2Corolla 07-11-2002, 02:11 PM Yeah some Corvette guys are like  About Civics. I don't know why they they that they're cars are gods. Don't get me wrong, Z06's are badass, and regular Corvette's kick ass too, but owning a Corvette doesn't give you a right to talk trash about other people's cars. Personally I like the B18C's more than H22's. My best friend is going to get a B18C1 swap in his 93 hatch. He straight out told me he wants to hit 12's soon, but he's going to go for mid 11's daily driven. I told him he's nuts and he's probably going to crash. You should get Skunk2 cams in the GSR motor. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
