99' 5 spd Civic Ex Won't Start~Help MeCivicgurl99 03-13-2006, 06:04 PM Hi, I have a 99' civic ex 5spd and, it won't start. it has been in the shop for 2 weeks, and the So-called mechanic doesn't know what is wrong with it. i started the car 3 weeks ago, and it ran for about 1 min and, cut off. ever since then it won't start. i tried to start the car back up and, it cut back off immediately. the car with fire up and, putt now, but won't stay running. the "mechanic" changed the spark plugs and, said they had been full of gas (?) another mechanic thinks something is wrong with the engine like, it's blown or stalled. but, i don't "think" it's blown. can someone please email me (CivicGurL1983@Aol.Com) and, tell me what they think is wrong with my car. give me any suggestions or advice i'd really appreciate it!! :frown: sincerely, Liz ~needs her civic back desperately!!~ kicker1_solo 03-13-2006, 06:13 PM Well Liz, are you looking for suggestions so that you can fix it yourself or so that you can tell the mechanic what to do? I could tell you a few things to check to narrow it down from there but I'm sure the mechanics have already done that. If I were in your position I would take your car to the nearest honda dealer, they could tell you exactly what's wrong with it. I could tell you a few things to check to narrow it down from there but I'm sure the mechanics have already done that. If I were in your position I would take your car to the nearest honda dealer, they could tell you exactly what's wrong with it. i was asking if you had any suggestions as to what might be wrong with my car, so i could give the mechanic some suggestions. i'm taking it to someone else tomorrow. please let me know if u know of any possibilities. thanks! hxgaser 03-13-2006, 11:23 PM I hate to say, but your description of the problem is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. We need more information. i.e. Does the car have any check engine light (CEL) light on? If so what is the code? (Your so call mechanic should be able to tell) Do you hear anything unusual, other than just rough idel when it is running? Did your mechanic do a compression test? Is there a vacuum leak? You can ask your "mechanic" these questions, but if I were you, I would take the car to a reputable shop or a dealer as kicker1solo mentioned. Sounds like these guys are qwacks. Any knowlegeble mechanic familiar with the type of vehicles should be diagnose the problem within a few hours. Civicgurl99 03-14-2006, 05:52 PM There is no check engine light on in the car...and, the car hasn't really started for 3 weeks. it will start then putt and, cut right off. the longest it stays on is like 15 secs. max. kicker1_solo 03-14-2006, 09:47 PM have you taken it to honda yet? they can run a full diagnostics on it and finger out exactly what's wrong. TurboLaxx 03-15-2006, 01:01 AM did your "mechanic' really change the spark plug in hopes to solve the problem? That's the worst trouble shooting i've ever heard. Take it to honda dealership. Yes they are expensive, but they get the job done. cas4067 03-15-2006, 10:56 AM Did they check if the engine is getting fuel. The fuel pump might have went bad...
