Sluggish AT reverse-99' GCLGoldfishy 03-13-2006, 11:41 AM When the engine is cold or cooled down, putting the car into reverse (auto tranny) and trying to back up, the steering wheel is stiff or sluggish, it seems like I've got two flat front tires in trying to turn them (running them with 35 psi). The power steering fluid is level, no leaks, no belt squeaks, p/s belt tension is good, replaced both front wheel bearings. It's the original p/s pump at 167,000 mi. If the engine is past the warm temps, it's all good, you'd never know and the engine is running fine. fredjacksonsan 03-13-2006, 02:33 PM My steering was a bit hard to turn on my 00 and I think dirty fluid was to blame. I've replaced the fluid (the old turkey baster method to remove, refill and repeat every couple days) and it's a lot easier to turn now. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
