Computer SwapCaribbean ZJ 03-13-2006, 07:15 AM Will a computer from an early 4.0 93Gc limited with security system work in a 95 Laredo w/out security system? dksob81 03-13-2006, 07:48 AM It's hard to say, it will prolly work to start the jeep and run it but some other things might not work. bringselpup 03-13-2006, 09:22 AM I seriously doubt. First half of 93 had the AW4 transmission. They switched mid year to 42re. And I believe for years after that if not through when .... 98? And remember all the trouble Tom just had, (docscomputers) he had gotten a computer with theft and tried it in a non theft vehicle. It was shutting down right away because the theft part wasn't seeing it's other bits. Post the number of your original computer, maybe someone has one. There's one for a 95 on ebay but they don't list the entire number. You'd have to get them to clarify what one they have. dksob81 03-13-2006, 09:29 PM Well I have a Computer for a non anti-theft equipped ZJ and it works on my Anit-Theft Equipped jeep, it runs fine, I don't know about the tranny shifting right or anything like that but it will fire up and it will rev up fine, haven't drove it with the other PCM on tho, i just hooked it up to make sure it worked good. On the AW-4 tranny and the 42RE/44RE transmissions built before 96 were controlled by the TCM, not the PCM, so the tranny shouldn't be a factor. bringselpup 03-14-2006, 07:16 AM Yes but your situation is the opposite. You have a no theft computer that will run in a with theft vehicle. That's quite interesting actually, because it's seems to show it's a one sided deal. But in CaribbeanZJ's case he's looking at a with theft computer and a no theft vehicle. Docscomputers situation seemed to show us the PCM will just shut down right away the moment it doesn't get it's signal from the rest of the anti theft system. As for tranny's and PCM's, I'm just going by what I see. Different PCM numbers, 8 per year or so mean somethings different PCM wise or parts wise on the Vehicle. I know some of it is Calif emissions vs the rest of the US etc. but there were choices even on mine (early 93) like with or without RFI suppression. Small stuff I'm sure but possibly the difference between a smooth running vehicle and one that farts out black smoke going down the road. Another computer that's close might get this guy going and if he needs the vehicle to run until he can scrounge up the right one I'd do it too. But I'm thinking the with anti theft computers will shut down vehicles with no factory theft. dksob81 03-14-2006, 07:51 AM yea thats true! Caribbean ZJ 03-15-2006, 08:06 AM Thanks guys it aint 4 me though but 4 a friend, i read somewhere else that it wont work. bringselpup seems to b right. Can anyone remember the site that sells computers cheap autorock or sumn like that dksob81 03-15-2006, 08:25 AM www.advanceautoparts.com Caribbean ZJ 03-15-2006, 11:47 AM thanks, great site bringselpup 03-15-2006, 07:01 PM I got mine through Advance Auto and it was a Cardone reman. Total cost was about $220. I went right to the counter though and had my old one in hand so I didn't have to shell out the core up front and wait for it to be reimbursed. www.rockauto.com had them cheaper but I couldn't wait, and they will want a core charge up front too. And this place www.autopart.com claims they will do a reman on your current one for $149 if you can wait the 2 weeks for turnaround. bugheman 08-24-2006, 05:44 PM Guys - Girls... same issue in my 1996 JGC limited.... 4.0 AT with security system.
