Looks like some kinda sensor, and it sits on some flimsy piece of metal about 2 inches off the radiator. (front side) I looked in my book, and I couldn't find it.

Sounds like the external temp sensor if it is mounted low and you have electronic climate control or the airbag discriminator if it is mounted up high.
