just want to my sure my brakes are operating normallyBrian P 07-04-2002, 02:40 AM we had the front brake pads replaced for the first time (bought dec '98). about 1-2 months ago. they said it was almost to the metal. they probably ripped us off but thats another post altogether :) so anyway, when i first got it back the brakes felt exactly the same. but now they seem a tad bit stronger- not that i go easy on the brakes either. but at highway speeds... between around 40-65 mph, if i get on the brakes HARD and QUICK, the fronts will grab so hard that the tires are sliding/scretching - i do not believe they lockup altogether, but i'm sure their rotation speed at that moment is below what it should be. this all happens within 1/4 to 1/2 second before ive let up on the brakes. i dont recall this happening before... although if it happened when the car was brand new i probably couldnt remember anything that far back. there is significantly more brake dust on the front wheels compared to the rear. but this should be expected with new pads i'm sure. as for low speeds... getting on the brakes hard below 20 mph, everything seems to be normal. anywho... i just wanted to make sure everything is ok. i'm not getting any ABS warning lights or anything. kinda reminds me... i managed to put the car into a semi-controlled slide as i entered a large hwy onramp (yay me). was fun while it lasted for like, half a second. never was able to do that before... and the tires are new too. there was lots of contruction in that area.. i'm sure the road is/was very dirty. that probably helped. T4 Primera 07-16-2002, 04:55 AM Since you only had the front pads replaced, I'd suggest you find out if they are the same compound as the rear. If they are not the same material then this article on brake balance might be of interest to you: http://www.turnfast.com/tech_brakes/brakes_balancing.lasso vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
