Hmmm, just wondering where the thermostat location is on a 1996 z24 cavalier...is it on the drivers side of the engine on the side of the block? There is a Hose there connected by two screws...I took it apart and i'm thinking the previous owner removed the thermostat because there wasn't one in there...Or am i mistaken?

Not sure if the 2.3 & 2.4L quad 4s are the same as the 2.2L, but on the 2.2L, its on the hose that leads up to the water pump housing. There's a metal flange that's about 4" long coming off the block close to the water pump. it's on the end of the housing further away from the block where the radiator hose attaches. This is on the passenger side.

On the driver side where the lower radiator hose attaches to the block, the housing on our '96 2.2L has "Thermostat @ Waterpump" stamped into the housing. You might want to see if the hose you're looking at has this stamped on it.

On the Quad 4's it is located at the bottom of the water pump under the exhaust manifold.
Just follow the lower radiator hose to the pipe going under the oil pan to the back of the engine it's at the back end of that pipe.
