crappy gas mileageBudjr52 03-09-2006, 03:00 AM I own a beat up 1994 Geo metro 4 door with an automatic tranny. I have cleaned my egr valve and still the highest mileage I have gotten is 38mpgs on a road trip out of state....most of the time I get between 26 nd 30. can anyone tell me what to check and where the item is to check? I love this little car but I got better mileage out of my subaru forester....HELP!!! Wolfman1964 03-09-2006, 08:51 AM I read somewhere on here that a bad MAP sensor will cause a decrease in gas mileage. I am going to look into this with mine. I only get about 20 to 22 mpg. I have a 3 cyl. with auto. Hope this helps. Budjr52 03-10-2006, 02:50 AM can my map sensor be gone and my check engine light not be on? I thought I would have the engine light come on when it goes bad? Crvett69 03-10-2006, 03:09 AM 38mpg is about all you can expect out of a automatic, we had 2 and never averaged better than 38. if you keep speed under 65 on freeway it will get better but never great since the tranny is not a overdrive one Budjr52 03-10-2006, 11:24 PM I would love to get that....most of the time I am getting around 26-30 spy1309 03-11-2006, 02:06 AM Check your engine compresion to ,that might be for sure one of the causes of low MPG as the engine has to work harder to compensate for lost compresion. bambambam 03-11-2006, 05:42 AM Mine is an auto as well with the 1.3L. I average about 36mpg, 33 if I really get on it. It's not nearly as good as the guys with 3cyl and manual, but its still tons better than my wife's explorer (18 mpg) Budjr52 03-12-2006, 01:18 PM mine has the 1.0 3 cyl. working on getting a map sensor and a oxygen sensor. any other hints? gumby_ct 03-12-2006, 07:21 PM mine has the 1.0 3 cyl. working on getting a map sensor and a oxygen sensor. any other hints? How many miles? Budjr52 03-12-2006, 08:52 PM 72000 miles bambambam 03-12-2006, 09:03 PM Well....I'm far from an expert...but that automatic is gonna hurt your mileage. On top of that you've got a four door, which is a little heavier than my two door. Your mileage is pretty good on the highway...it looks like the stops and starts around town are killing you. Your mpgs probably don't have a lot of room for improvement. Get a good tune up, make sure your tires are inflated properly and drive smart... Again, I'm no expert... bam gumby_ct 03-12-2006, 09:26 PM I agree- automatics tend to loose power & mpg's. Not to mention driving habits. I tend to drive mine hard - she gets much better mileage than me driving the same car. Guess the real question is what kind of mileage are you expecting to get? Budjr52 03-13-2006, 01:03 AM I am hoping for at least 35 mpgs...I mean it is a 1.0 3 cyl.....like I said my 2.5 4 cyl in the forester I had got what I am getting now...:shakehead Budjr52 03-13-2006, 01:08 AM it is alot better now that I cleaned my egr valve it used to get 22 tops.... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
