99 front rotor replcement directions?bouseman 03-08-2006, 05:20 PM I need to replace my front pads & rotors on my 99 limited is there a website with directions? also advanced auto parts told me there are two different calippers. is this true and whats the difference. thanks jeep mechanic 03-08-2006, 08:01 PM yes there are 2 types of calipers, hi-perf and standard. the difference is the casting marks. easy thing to do is, disassemble front brakes and take pads with you to match up against the new ones. i went to auto zone and the ones they stock are the ones i need. the hi-perf were special order.they were for the overland edition xj31 03-08-2006, 11:49 PM yes there are 2 types of calipers, hi-perf and standard. the difference is the casting marks. easy thing to do is, disassemble front brakes and take pads with you to match up against the new ones. i went to auto zone and the ones they stock are the ones i need. the hi-perf were special order.they were for the overland edition You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. The 2 kinds are Teves and Akebono calipers. The Teves were the original ones on 99-01 and early 02 Wjs.They changed to Akebono to try (unsuccessfully) to fix the pulsation problem that these jeeps are notorious for.(There was a TSB to replace the Teves calipers with Akebonos.)The easiest way to tell what you have is if there are wire anti-rattle clips on the calipers. They look just like the rear brakes only bigger. If there are the wire clips, they are Teves. If there are no clips and the calipers look kind of shiny they are Akebono calipers. jeep mechanic 03-09-2006, 12:01 AM xj 31 calm down there sparky! im glad your the expert. I was going off what the idiot told me at autozone. i had the same problem. since your the expert. how do you tell the 2 calipers apart from each other? i was told to look for casting marks , triangles? bouseman 03-09-2006, 09:47 AM calm down your both right, I have the outside clips(teves) I was also found out about the triangles from another source. thanks for the replies they were both helpful xj31 03-10-2006, 10:41 PM Jeep "mechanic",sorry If I came across a little harsh.I guess I figured someone calling themself jeep mechanic would know this stuff. FourPointZero 03-13-2006, 07:53 AM Hey Bouseman, here is a great website with a lot of tech stuff for the WJ. http://www.wjjeeps.com/brakes.htm I just did my brakes, only my rear pads needed to be replaced but I wanted to turn the front rotors but they were stuck/rusted on. Anyone got any tips for removing stubborn rotors? Also it was a little tough getting the caliper support springs back on. lazer2463 03-14-2006, 04:07 PM One is a dual piston caliper and the other is a single piston. Can't remember which is which though. I think the dual one is the Akebono. As far as the rotors coming off, try a little WD-40 around the hub. I beat on mine and they wouldn't budge, Sprayed a little WD on and they popped right off. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
