I Have a 1997 dodge ram 1500, V-8, 5.2 L pickup. I replaced the starter and waterpump to solve another problem and i soon got a check engine light. took it to autozone and the error code is "P1763", which is "governor pressure sensor voltage to high" and now the truck will not idle when stopped(runs fine when your giving it gas). The truck has 92000 miles and never had any trouble up to this point. Could the error code be false or caused by somthing else?....any suggestions?

I think autozone was bull crapping you. I searched for that code and could not find it. I check on obdii.com and on obd-codes.com and could not find a match for the code you listed. to me I would first check the fuel filter maybe its plugged up and when you give it gas it creates enough pressure to send the fuel through. Also if its not the filter maybe its your fuel pump itself not creating enough pressure until you give it gas.

The fault code P1763 does exist. The correct definition is govenor pressure sensor volts too high . This is a transmission related problem . When the fault is active the transmission will exibit" third gear launch", meaning you will only have third gear and reverse. It will have nothing to do with the engine stalling problem you mentioned . The first thing I would do is clean the throttle body. (should repair stalling problem) , and disconnect the battery for 10 minutes . If the check engine light comes on again due to P1763 go to the Chrysler dealer to have it properly diagnosed.

I had the same problem after my battery died. What happened was after having no power for an extended time, the throttle position looses its memory and has to recalibrate. This is done by simply driving it. It doesn't always reset but you said you replaced the starter which means you disconnected the battery, so this could possibly be your idle problem. Just drive it for an hour or so and see if it will stay idling. Not to say you don't have another problem, but with what you said you have done with the starter, that is the most probable, and it won't cost anything to try it.
