I have a 2002 Park Avenue Ultra.
It has dual zone climate control.
The drivers side works fine.
The passengers side is always burning hot no matter what!
The passenger adjuster has no effect if you move it to hotter or cooler.
It is ALWAYS HOT!
Any ideas?

Only guesses, but may be a place to start...

1. Possible that the Passenger Temp Control unit is malfunctioning, calling for heat on that side, regardless of setting...

2. Possible that the HVAC unit is malfunctioning, thinking the Passenger Temp Control is calling for heat, regardless of setting...

3. Possible that the doors/dampers that are controlled by the HVAC unit are stuck or inoperative, allowing hot air to continue to flow to passenger side, even when not called for...

One other thing that comes to mind...

I had taken the driver's side hush panel down from under the dash and there was a sensor-looking object that was located in the vent to the driver's feet. I don't know if it was, but it appeared to be a temp sensor. I don't know if there's one on the passenger side, too, but if so, could be that it is bad, thinking that the air passing by it is too cold, so it calls for hotter temps...

You were right, the blend door actuator was bad.
$400 later at the dealer it is new and now working.
My local mechanic and a radiator shop both couldn't fix it and said the delaer had to do it.

Dual zone climate control, was really hot on the one side, now working! Lots of labor to fix it.

Lots of us with this system have had this problem. Reports have been that
it's most often the electrical actuator that positions the air for the passenger side. In my case I could see it was not working and had stopped in the full heat position. I took it off and managed to reposition it to a more central position so I get cooling on both sides. I bought a new actuator ($40 at
gmdirect.com) but have not yet put it on.

So, $400 seems kind of expensive. But, some have reported the HVAC controller having failed. Would you mind looking at your invioce and telling up exactly what part the dealer replaced?

Ihave the reverse of this problem on my 99 PA Ultra. The passenger side is cold but the driver side is a steam bath. Could u please supply me with the part # that fixed your problem? Also the location would be of great help.

I'm away from home right now so can't give you the part number. It is a black plastic module about 3x3x1 inches with a rotating arm. To see it
open the glove box, hold the rubber stop tabs on top (at the back) so as to
allow the entire glove box to swing down. Yoy can then look into the area.
There are two actuators, one at the top, other att eh bottom. It's the
top one. It's hel on by a couple screws. TO get a nut driver on them you
will need to first bemove another module screwed to the bottom side of th
e dash, directly above the actuator.

Please not that the air bag system (SRS) should be disabled before working in this area. I did not and survived, but I understand that SEVERE injury can result if you do something that releases the bag while you head is right in front of it.

Also, my replacement actuator is still on the workbench, so I am HOPING it
fixes my problem. Some here have reported it does.

It's always a good idea to send an e-mail to gmpartsdirect giving them the VIN number for your car and description of part... "HAVC passenger side actuator". You might also give them the above number and ask if that is the correct part for your car.

My actuator moves when I start the car. If the ac is set, it goes warm for about a minute, then to the cool setting. The climate control screen flashes for about 2 minutes. I opened the glove box and can see the actuator moving. When I set the climate control to warm temperatures, it starts out warm, then the blend door opens, and then it is tepid. In thread 742046 the solution provided has not helped me. Any suggestions? It is getting cold in Toronto, and I need the heat to be coming out right away

All of this started after the dealer replaced the transmission (right after). I have read threads which stated that not turning the climate control off before unhooking the battery can cause problems for the climate control module. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks.
