I primed about 1/3 of my CLK DTM and the thing went dead. Damn... it's the short Testors air propellant for my cheapo airbrush. Any air pumps out there worth buying for a modeling project? (don't need $5000 pumps)

p.s. Where the heck can I find >2000 grit sandpaper in Canada? Ontario? Toronto?????????? The finest I've seen sold here are 2000 grit ones from Tamiya. Where the heck can I get 12000 grit?!?

:(

Borrowed this from a friend :D:D:D:D The thing is HUGe and LOUD but works perfectly... :) Rumbles for around 30 seconds and then I can work for almost an hour. Gotta get myself one of these! ;)

Get yourself a big industrial compressor with a receiver and a pressure regulator. Even a second - hand one.

The cheapest air source would be to buy an compressed air tank ($25), an auto compressor to fill the tank ($20), hardware to hook up to your airbrush ($5). All said and done, around $50 bucks.

IMO compressor is the way to go if you plan on making lots of models. you can get the compressed air tank, with the tire compressor too. sounds like a solid idea. i bought an air brush compressor with regulator from ebay for about $100. all i have to pay for from now on is the electricity to turn it on. no refills, no more cans of propellant.

as for the higher grit sandpaper. ive never seen paper beyond 2000, however, if you go to detailmaster.com (http://www.detailmaster.com) and navigate your way to the finishing tools, you'll be able to order all kinds of stuff. they have "abrasives" that go up to 12000grit. im not sure what those abrasives are but i guess you could but the kit they offer and just order stuff as you run out. for now, im just gonna stick to sanding with 2000 grit tamiya paper followed by tamiya compound, then tamiya wax. works good for me.

This is what I made.. add a regulator (20$) and you are in biseness for some serious modeling ;-)

I have a CAmpbell and Hauser FP2003 from wal-mart.com that I got for $100, it comes with everything but a 1/4" to 1/4" nipple to hook up my airbrush. It's like ales contraption, air compressor fills 2 gallon tank, however the compressor is less powrful so it takes longer to fill it up (but I can still airbrush for an hour without any compressor sound! Yay!). IMO it offers the best compromise between CO2 tanks and a regular compressor, giving you silence and convenience.
