Leg room in a Miata?

I went to the local dealer today and sat in a 2001 Miata and found I couldn't move the seat back far enough to get my legs comfortable. The salesman informed me the 2006 has more leg room so I sat in a 2006 and still had to move the seat all the way back, I wanted it back an additional click. I'm around 6' tall, wear 32" inseam jeans and weigh around 185#. I have more leg room in my Protege5 than either of the Miata's. With the steering wheel in a position so the gauges are visable my knees are too close to the steering wheel. I own an MGB and don't have the leg room problem with it, however I do have the big MGB steering wheel too close to my legs. I suppose I need to drive a Miata a few miles and see if I can get a more comfortable seat position. FWIW, I'm a senior citizen and I'm not as flexible as I used to be. Any helpful comments will be appreciated.

i'm 5'11" and 160 lbs and i fit just fine in my '92. i find that once you actually get your legs on the pedals there's more than enough room, but if you sit with your feet flat on the floor you feel cramped.

The NAs (90-97) have more leg room than the NBs (99-05). Don't know about the new ones (NCs). 6'3", 200# w/ 34" inseam and I fit nicely in an NA. NB was way too cramped.
