Ok - not going to post much as I'm pretty damn tired, but it was a good run and a fun evening (other than have some dickhead try to run me off the road with his subaru 3 minutes after I left home  ).

Good to catch up with a few new faces, Oz and Slave and to play on the road with Nut-12A and Q-baby again.

Will fill in the details later - anyone else feel free to jump in with them.

Pics at the servo below:

Gotta do a daytime run - night shots and a cheapie camera = bad ;)

Nice to see the pics up here. Im not going to give much of a wrap up, being kinda lost in terms of the exact locations etc. So I'll say it was fast I was well fed (thanks) and had an awesome time.

Those pics look pretty decent Pete... the pics from the Nikon are a bit dark, and quite a bit of reflection of the number plates, and reflection off lights.

wrap up....

well ....

we met at lansvale mobil servo, headed down the hume and turned left at the "harbour bridge" aka... Peter Warren dealership into Governor Macquarie Drive...

dodged the pot holes along there, and turned right onto newbridge rd, before turning left at Moorebank, to head down to heathcote rd.

Headed down heathcote rd, and turned back onto the hwy.

we then headed through the helensburgh exit off the highway, through the bends back to stanwell.....

hehehe....I wonder who hit the dirt :p
and some nice sideways movement from the civics there :p

stopped at stanwell tops, and all the stars were out...very nice...and then headed down the coastal rd, towards the gong....

Hmmm...bugger we got caught behind that tarago... at the best bends on that road....

slave had to shut his sunroof...incase of falling rocks :p

stopped at a cafe in the gong for dinner.... and then headed down to kiama - the blow hole...pretty windy...we stayed there for a bit, before heading back along the hwy, then picton rd back to sydney.

hehehe...oh, and you mentioned something about Oz almost crapping himself :p at a certain speed limit???

I did sort of lose you guys going up Mt Ousley, and also through the first bend on picton rd :p

Great drive and nice to meet you Oz and Slave.

message from Lang...she's not a NUT 12A - she's a 12B

although she wishes she had a rotor in it :silly2:

What speed limit? hehe. No seriously. Here were the contributing factors to the grim death stare on my face at the time - Pete changing lanes with one hand, Pete talking to you and laughing, Pete's laughter almost turning into a sneeze and THEN looking at the speedo and seeing 175. Then it was time for the darkies...

No, seriously, it was a fantastic night. Great to meet those I have talked to for so long and thanks to all those involved!

I had to manually bump the gamma/brightness settings in photoshop - the originals are quite dark :)

Potholes? There were potholes? Anyone else see potholes? :p

I didn't hit the dirt... the armco maybe, not the dirt :p That'll teach me to fiddle with the climate controls ;) I think the SiR spent it's previous life as a drift car in gran turismo - I'm still trying to remove the dents on the panic handle on the passenger's side. Thing is, I don't really notice it - it's a way of life at the moment - Oz might disagree ;)

Not to mention grinning like a maniac as the tacho needle hit 8200 :D

I'd backed off as I didn't know if cops were around - that and a whole ton of paper and stuff came fling from under your car - I think someone had tossed maccas rubbish on the road and you ran it down. That or it was your muffler puking from seasickness  But yeah - you certainly pulled away hard.

Anyway, a really fun time - good company and a nice run. I've decided to try and sort the Spoon strut brace by saturday (once I find out how to move the aircon piping that is in the way of the passenger mounting point) and then do the Katoomba run with the Fast Fours forums. If it's a good run (which it looks to be on paper then maybe we can do it sometime). :)

Lang says I left the polarizer on the camera, thats why the photos didn't turn out properly....

how am I supposed to know...its her camera...I just shoot and click :p

Paper???? what paper???

was a bit pissy yesterday, as this idiot threw a coke bottle across the road, when I was in livo, and it hit the rim of a 4wd, rebounded into my front spoiler

Yeah it was a great night, and following the S"isometimesgoeverywhere"R was quite funny, time for a new mobile car kit me thinks? lol, but it was great, mind you I fell asleep at home, and was kinda messy the next morning. Oh and thanks a lot now I want a turbo! Dammit...

REALLY :p

my cousins reckon the car is missing the thermostat...thats why the constant cold temperature...which is also effecting the vtec cutting in sometimes.

hmmm....getting it looked at in a couple weekends time...when I have spare time.

Heheh - I know what you are insinuating and you're on the wrong track Q ;)

Thermostat might be the problem - could be jammed open.

You think you have problems:

Cost of Spoon strut brace:

120 bucks.

Cost of getting my A/C line rebuilt so the brace can be installed (the AC line is exactly where the brace mount needs to be for those that don't know) is

350 bucks

...as I have the old gas in my Aircon and will need the filter unit etc replaced :(

I'm going to unbolt the line from the firewall and see if I can ziplock it to the brace.

Fingers crossed :)

I'm sure there are some strut braces out there that can clear the aircon, I know it pretty much goes right past the mount point.:(
I think 'Neuspeed' make a solid one piece unit.. not too sure though.

If you can possibly avoid it, don't open the a/c system up, as then you will lose the R-12 forever, and trust me its much better than the R-134a they will replace it with, not to mention a whole heap of other possible complications including technician incompetence. (enough about that though)

Otherwise try bending it out of the way without damaging any of the joins, but yeah if you can avoid it don't get the gas replaced, my system had a leak and it got 'professionaly' repaired (butchered) and R-134a was put in there, its not as good is the CFC even if they tell you its the same or better.. it ISN'T!!...

For a ED/Aussie GL, the towers will clear 0 but that's 'cause the D15/D16 sits lower in the engine bay and doesn't take up all the room that the factory B16A does. The mounts have to be where they are so that the brace clears the intake while clearing the bonnet as well unfortunately. I tried a brace designed for the non-B16A 4G civic and CRX - it is blocked by the manifold/idle control (even the one for the ZC powered CRX has the same issues.

Air-con has to be regassed soon anyway so I don't mind it - just the cost of the retro kit. I'll take it to the place that did my GL - damn professional (but it's a air-con shop, not an auto-electrician). In the meantime - going to try the dismount from the firewall idea :)

yeah I have read about strut braces not being able to clear the B16A :(

You proabaly already know this, but don't leave the system 'open' for too long, the oil will absorb moisture and cause all sorts of headaches later on, also if it still has gas in it, i'm sure you could get it recovered from the syetm for cheap, instead of giving yourself and the environment a nasty surprise when you undo the pipe from the firewall.
Also I did get mine done at a 'Refrigeration Specialist' they had a decent shop etc, but they went in there with all guns blazing, scratching up the engine bay around the compressor, scraping the radiator etc, severely overtightening the belts and breaking plastic clips etc, which I have now replaced. But if you know the place and they do a good job thats really good, its hard to find a competent professional these days, thats why I like to do almost everything myself.

Setanta

Nah - I'm just unbolting the pipe bracket from the firewall to shift it out the way, not disconnecting the system (sorry, was I that vague? ;) ). If that works then all is good. If not then I'll have to get it re-routed by the shop.
