95 intrepid squealing after new plugs & wires!magnustampa 03-05-2006, 10:35 PM I just finished changing the spark plugs and wires on a 95 dodge intrepid (3.3L). I disconnected only two sensors/cables to give me room to work and did nothing that was anywhere close to the belts. The two sensors/cables were the one on the bottom side of the distributor block (? the one where the wires connect to) and the other on the underside of the throttle body intake. Both were reconnected. I am pretty sure I connected the wires back in the correct order (per Haynes manual, but like a moron I disconnected all the wires at once rather than replacing them one at a time). I am not getting any backfire. I AM getting an intermittent squealing under the hood (sounds like belt squealing) and it sounds like a low-pitched constant hum while driving.:banghead: I only drove it around the block a couple of times after doing this, but strangely the engine seemed a bit hot to me for the short drive (but it was also not completely cool when I changed the plugs & wires). If anyone can suggest any possible causes, I would appreciate it. Its the wife's car and I don't want her broken down on the road (I would never hear the end of it! :nono: ) sneakybert 03-06-2006, 11:57 PM The alternator belt is probably loose . You ran the battery low while you had the hood up and the hood light was illuminated causing the alternator to charge to its full ability when the engine was started. magnustampa 03-07-2006, 09:41 AM Thanks, but that doesn't seem to be it. In fact, the light under the hood doesn't even stay on much (bad wire). Its a moot point though, since last night I found the problem (or a related one somehow). the water pump blew. I guess the squealing was related to it. Not sure how though, but damndest thing, at least I was close to home. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
