Gas mileage

:banghead: So here's the question. I have a K&N FIPK and recently put on a performance exhaust from a local shop larger diameter pipes and a magna flow muffler. I had hoped to get better gas mileage with these changes but I got the total opposite my mileage has seemed to go down. I called the dealership and they said if the service engine light isn't on it's probably not a problem with the engine or cats. Any ideas or guidence would be greatly appreciated.

Makes sense to me. More power = more fuel consumed, right?

Wow I thought my gas mileage was bad. I was getting about 330 miles to the tank but now with the new exhaust it's down to maybe 300 miles to the tank

You're probably pushing it harder now. Did you disconnect your battery and reset the ECM? That may help, but I think it's really just a neato factor getting your right foot to push down more. Remember, it draws in more air now, so it will also draw more fuel to match if you open it up. keep out of the throttle a bit and things will be better. I wouldn't have expected a significant change in either direction anyway.

lookzcustoms, you either have a serious problem with your Xterra or you have a serious problem driving efficiently. My Xterra is 800 lbs overweight and has 32" tires and I can still get 300 + miles per tank. 180 miles is not at all normal. Only time I dipped that low was playing in the sand dunes.

u know the problem is that the american and canadian cars are all about gas

DIESEL is the best.

my buddy in europe has a nissan navara which is an nissan frontier here
http://www.whatcar.co.uk/car-review-performance.aspx?RT=745&ED=47799&U=0

check out the specs Max power (bhp/rpm)172/4000 Max torque (lb ft/rpm)262/2000

Engine (cc/type)2488/4cyl Fuel typeDiesel

this thing is turbo charged runs like a demon with a snorkel u can sink that whole motor under water and it will still be running

in europe hondas r diesels, nissans, fords, gmc, chrysler, almost any car
and they r great cheap to mantain and raliable i need one of those diesel motors off that navara in the xterra

I'm with you on the diesel thing. Had it been available, mine might have been so equipped. I would love to have all that low end torque that the diesel would give. I would still be interested in doing a conversion in the future if parts availability, cost, etc. makes it feasable.
