Clacking noise. Front center of the car.jinx10000 02-28-2006, 06:28 PM Geo metro 3 cylinder 96 model 5 speed manual transmission. When I turn and accelerate I get a fairly loud clack clack clack. Turn either way. I think it may do it when there is a strain on the engine in general but mostly when turning. Though it doesn't sound like it is coming from the engine. Sounds like it is coming from the front center of the car. Somewhere in front of the gear shift. Just bought the car and it was doing it when I bought it. Any ideas let me know. jinx10000 02-28-2006, 10:04 PM Looked halfshaft up it is 110 dollars at autozone. Anyway I can tell if one side or the other is the culprit?? carpenter_jai 03-01-2006, 02:28 AM Looked halfshaft up it is 110 dollars at autozone. Anyway I can tell if one side or the other is the culprit?? $110 is alot of money. I have bought rebuilt for about $65 Can. jinx10000 03-01-2006, 07:19 AM Is it urgent that I fix it immediately or would it be ok to drive it for a short period in that condition? Also when I do this job what other stuff needs to be changed while I have it off? geozukigti 03-02-2006, 12:07 AM If it's clacking, it's past the point of being "ok" It may go on for thousands of miles like that, or it may just lock up and snap in half. I'd check a junkyard for one. I bet you can get it there really cheap. www.car-part.com . They're simple to replace too. Nothing will really NEED to be replaced, but you may want to consider putting a new output shaft seal on the transmission while you have the axle out. They're only a couple bucks at the dealer, and it'll take a couple minutes to put it in. Check the play in your balljoint also to see what kind of shape it's in. If it's needy, might as well get an Ebay control arm and take care of it all in 1 shot. jinx10000 03-04-2006, 04:08 PM On closer inspection. Both cv joints are bad. Pulled the first one out. Only difficult part was finding something to pry on to push the control arm down. Found them for 60 dollars at advance auto. Thanks alot guys. I am a real novice where is the ball joint and how will I know if it is bad? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
