Hi. I have a problem with my 92 crown vic. the key is stuck in the ignition. it turns forward but it will not turn back enough to take the key out. I managed to get it out once. but it got stuck again. i turned it back and forth several times and it worked and the key came out but when i used the car the next day it got stuck again. I think it might have something to do with moving the gear shift because that is the only thing i did different when it got stuck. I took out the cylinder and the key comes out when the cylinder is out but when i put it back it gets stuck again.
any suggestions on what the problem could be.

Is the shift lever tight or a little loose? If it is a little loose, check the bottom of steering column where the shift cable bolts to the bracket. There are 2 little screws that will work loose. Make sure they are tight. If shifter is not loose, you may need to lower steering column to see what is causing the key to hang forward.

No the shift lever is not loose. i took of the cover on the stearing column and i think i found the problem. there is a plastic ring that fits around the rod that is connected to the shift lever( the piece that turns). it was out of the slot that it was supposed to fit into. when i push it back in the key turns back but once i move the shift lever it works its way back up and the key wont turn back. where could i get this piece at and how could i get it off.
