RB26dett in 240sx?!?michang174 02-26-2006, 09:34 PM what do you think about dropping a RB26dett into a 240sx (s13 or s14) i've seen it in some magazines and was curious. I've looked at JDM , a price for a RB26dett with harness was about $3500, anyone know of anywhere cheaper and more reliable? I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on this mainly because I know the power that a RB26dett produces and i am a bit weary of that power with the weight of a 240sx. Skylindrftr 02-26-2006, 09:42 PM you could actually find a r32 rb26dett for around 3000 if you look hard enough (with driveshalf, harness, ecu etc...) 240SXSlideStar 02-26-2006, 09:53 PM If your looking for a good deal, don't even think of doing this. You don't have the money, experience, knowledge or need for an RB26DETT 240SX. michang174 02-26-2006, 09:59 PM I'm not looking for a good deal, i have a car to drive until i find what i'm looking for, and need a RB26dett 240sx, I don't need it but it'd be something i'd definently want and enjoy 240SXSlideStar 02-26-2006, 10:55 PM anyone know of anywhere cheaper and more reliable? Sounds like your looking for a good deal. Hit_N_Run-player 02-26-2006, 11:03 PM i dont want to have negative criticism, but if your even asking about an RB26 you most likely dont have the knowledge, tools, experience, and money to drop one in. You should just look at an RB25DET swap, your in the end going to make better/more-effecient power with a large single, and its an easier swap. Even if you were to do an RB26 swap, you'd end up using the RB25 tranny anyways. orestes 02-26-2006, 11:22 PM ok about your "looking or not looking for a deal" situationl, i got 3 or 4 of them bitches. Depending on what year you want. PM me for prices. I've even got triple turbo setups. Stock. AWDSR20 02-26-2006, 11:27 PM hummm... get a hummmm.... yeah, get a civic, yeah civic..200 hp wow and FWD!! great car man! Air bags too!! ... RB's are nice just need work... did u look into KA-T??? www.Ka-t.org TatII 02-26-2006, 11:34 PM actually at nicoclub.com the guys with the RB26 swaps are much much faster then the RB25 guys. a RB26 with bolt ons and stock boost puts down just over 300whp. most RB25's with mods and running upped boost gets you 250-270whp. plus the power band is much broader on a RB26 and it just flows much better. more RB25 guys with upgraded turbos run's 12's. but the guy with the RB26 running stock boost got into the 11's. big difference and definitly worth the extra money if you got. Skylindrftr 02-27-2006, 12:04 AM That's all with bolt ons? I've seen GT-R's in option mags making at least mid 300's with more drivetrain loss... TatII 02-27-2006, 12:47 AM remember hes running stock boost. thats like dynoing a SR with 7 psi. lol Skylindrftr 02-27-2006, 12:48 AM most of them were running on stock boost TatII 02-27-2006, 01:43 AM hmmm then his must be busted.:bloated: nissan_240sx 02-27-2006, 02:59 AM OFF TOPIC: whats that say on your windshield tat? AOR ? TatII 02-27-2006, 11:59 AM it says AOR. its what my friends made up waaay back when we first started driving. its consist of my best friends from highschool basically. the group includes a modded STi, a modded EVO, a modded RX-7 FC turbo II, a modded 97 supra TT, my car, and a modded prelude v-tec, and we use to have a S2000 before he went to seatle for the army. and AOR stands for all out racing. that was back then though when my friends were idiots and take it very literally but now we're all calmed down. sidewayzS13 02-27-2006, 09:10 PM back on topic dont buy a cheap engine ever if your looking for the lowest price DONT. it will cost you in the d save up and buy a good engine from a good dealer. but do you actually know what it takes to swap a rb26dett into a 240 and do you have the money to support the engine. remeber if something breaks it wont be cheap to replace and your not just going to be able to run to autozone so do you have a daily driver. so ask yourself if u have a steady income w/ enough saved to always be able to orderme parts if need be and are you ready for lots of work and money Hit_N_Run-player 02-27-2006, 10:14 PM back on topic dont buy a cheap engine ever if your looking for the lowest price DONT. it will cost you in the d save up and buy a good engine from a good dealer. but do you actually know what it takes to swap a rb26dett into a 240 and do you have the money to support the engine. remeber if something breaks it wont be cheap to replace and your not just going to be able to run to autozone so do you have a daily driver. so ask yourself if u have a steady income w/ enough saved to always be able to orderme parts if need be and are you ready for lots of work and money thats a good point that alot of people dont consider, its not just the cost of the engine once you have the swap done, the parts costs are also a bitch. And Skylindrftr, why dont you drive your car to school? D-Bo 02-28-2006, 01:12 PM the RB is do-able but you gotta know a lot about the engine and the car to do it. you gotta read up on the rb engines and the s13 and s14. the 26dett from what i've read requires some engine bay customization cause its so big. you have to set the engine back a bit for the weight distribution to be right. don't ask me how to do any of this shit cause i don't know. all i know is that i've seen more 26dett projects incomplete than complete. which is a HUGE waste of money. so learn about what you're gonna do before you do it. if the rb engines are too much, consider the sr or ka-t ProbeKiller 02-28-2006, 09:40 PM Alright please excuse the gay ass username, I created this account long before I knew anything important. So here's where I'm at today. I currently have an rb26dett with stock turbos in my S13, running. It's running poorly for many reasons and it's still the fastest car I've ever been in. To date I have over $8000 into the swap and I did all the work myself. I also got the RB26 at nearly half of it's value as the import company owed me BIG. A few things to point out. There are no modifications to the vehicle necessary to make the rb26 fit in the s13 engine bay. The s14 has even more room. The rb26 swap is 10 times more difficult than the rb25 swap for a MULTITUDE of reasons of which I won't go into on this first post as I haven't seen the questioning person return to this post. It's late and I am headed to bed. If anyone has any questions I'm your man. Noobies be not afraid, I was one less than a year ago! J_Swigz 03-02-2006, 04:02 AM I just split 3 pages of useless shit from this thread. If you have something on topic to contribute then do. If I see anything like what I removed, I will delete the post and ban the poster for a day. You guys should know how to keep something on topic. michang174 03-02-2006, 07:58 PM probe.... how much prior knowledge of working on cars do you think is necessary for installing the Rb into a s13 or s14? David_NISMO 03-05-2006, 12:07 PM Know the RB and the 240 like it was going to be your Senior Thesis at the Univeristy of Michigan. Then all you have to know is how to turn a wrench. The most difficult part is the wiring. I knew almost nothing about automotive electronics when I did my wiring. But my Dad is an electornic technitian so I understand electricy flow fairly well and it took over a month of just pluggin along to get it done. I have a superb ability to read and understand so I was able to push through. The RB26 is almost impossible to swap for someone without a lot of experience. I had tons of experience all around me and could ask tons and tons of quesitons. My car sat at a full service shop for 10 months during the work. The rb25 is nice and straight forward!! After months of research, a whole heap of patience, longevity, a very knowledgeable person to help you along, and careful decision making; I think someone with an IQ above 115 could do it with limited car knowlege. ( Approximately 66% of the population is 95-105 ) Have you read Sport Compact's Article? http://sportcompactcarweb.com/tech/0309scc_hybrid/ In my opinion, GET THE MICKINNEY mounts. That is the LAST thing you'd ever want to try to do on your own!!! Where are you at? How long have you been looking into doing a swap? What would you say is your experience level? michang174 03-05-2006, 12:29 PM my experiece on working on cars is installing a borla exhaust on a 350z which was pretty simple i have yet to even start on the project i'm doing all my research first , and if i did it my uncle would probably be helping me a lot and he is pretty good with cars he has a 1965 corvette that i think he's rebuilt 3 or 4 times Skylindrftr 03-05-2006, 04:55 PM And Skylindrftr, why dont you drive your car to school? could've sworn that a posted this but I guess it got deleted or something, I live really close to my school (within 5 mins walking distance) so it's just a waste of fuel and fighting for a parking space with huge suvs... michang174 05-28-2006, 09:53 AM Hey guys just an update, i might be getting a 95 240sx depending on if i can get my parents to sell the suburban, and can anyone give me a ballpark estimate on how much a right hand drive conversion would be? Chuki_breath 05-28-2006, 11:32 AM Hey guys just an update, i might be getting a 95 240sx depending on if i can get my parents to sell the suburban, and can anyone give me a ballpark estimate on how much a right hand drive conversion would be? it would be not worth the money. I guess if you want too look cool at a light or something. But id rather buy some actual performance mods with it. You are better off just buying a half cut of a 180 or something and taking the dash of it and doing a motor swap at the same time........ MetalHeadZaid 05-28-2006, 11:31 PM WHY would you ever want to do a right hand conversion?? everything from BK to drive through atms will make your life a bitch. do you just plan on telling everyone that your car is jdm or something? thats pretty lame... lucky13garage 05-29-2006, 05:05 PM so, back on topic a little (lol) Is the rb26dett really one of the best swaps out there because it seems like a whole lota work, i havent researched it yet as of just learning s13's and 14's but im assuming from the name rear based, 2600 ltrs, DOHC, and twin turbo's possibly?? i unno im getting ready to look it up but it sounds like a hella swap to me i mean shit i thought the ka24de was sweet... hahahahahahaha michang174 05-29-2006, 09:29 PM it would be not worth the money. I guess if you want too look cool at a light or something. But id rather buy some actual performance mods with it. You are better off just buying a half cut of a 180 or something and taking the dash of it and doing a motor swap at the same time........ lemme tell you boys a little something to fit a rb26 into a s14 right now its lookin like ima have to because the twin turbos get in the way of the steering column :grinno: i realize it'll be a pain but rb26 is well worth it Chuki_breath 05-29-2006, 09:39 PM wtf close this thread plz. Its to noobed up. THis guy should consider a ford festiva before he goes further. AWDSR20 05-29-2006, 09:50 PM wtf close this thread plz. Its to noobed up. THis guy should consider a ford festiva before he goes further. LOL... michang174 05-29-2006, 09:52 PM any one gonna gimme a ballpark estimate or are you jus gonna harrass me? AWDSR20 05-29-2006, 11:45 PM any one gonna gimme a ballpark estimate or are you jus gonna harrass me? 8000 instaled... sr20store.com (google it) michang174 05-30-2006, 12:25 AM 8000 instaled... sr20store.com (google it) thanks for that info but i was really asking for a ball park on the right hand drive anyone? 2.2 Straight six 05-30-2006, 01:51 AM why bother? you can can get over 700 horses from an SR20. it's been done. there's not much point going after an RB26DETT unless you'r looking for 1,000+ horses. it doesn't make sense, 700bhp is more than enough to destroy almost anything on the road, besides the car isn't too heavy and the SR20DET has the wieght advantage over an RB-series engine. if you want right-hand drive you're better off with a jap-spec import and not comverting it, you'd need to drill and cut the firewall for the ancillaries, steering pedals etc.. save yourself time and money, either turbo the KA or get hold of a black-top S15 SR20. if the most you've done is put a borla exhaust on a 350z, then swapping the steering to RHD and putting in an RB-series engine as well a doing all the neccesary wiring and such is nigh on impossible. David_NISMO 05-30-2006, 02:35 PM 700hp from an sr20 as you should very well know is truly pushing the limits of that motor. even at 400+hp it is a very high strung motor. If you have the money, knowledge, and equipment then you can extract that kind of power from many motors. The rb's ESPECIALLY THE RB26 at 500hp are anything but high strung. Those motors will live on long and happy pushing over 500hp without the fear of self implosion. You don't have to tune these motors to the ragged edge to extract this kind of HP like you would on an SR. There are 1400+HP Drag RB26's in Japan that have a stock bottom end using a modified oem head. I'm not knocking the SR by any means. It is a time tested, track proven highly desired, and pound for pound one of the best motors you can buy. There's just no way to compare it to an RB even with HP numbers. michang174 05-30-2006, 03:52 PM hey david did you need to do a right hand drive conversion to fit the rb26 into your 240? Chuki_breath 05-30-2006, 07:44 PM ok 700hp in a sr20 is not very streetable lol. That thing would be so camed out it would drive like shit and idle like shit.....let alone you would get no traction. It would be a drag street car with pizza cutters tires up front that takes turns at 15 mph.......if thats what you want go for it. an rb could easily be streetable at 700hp.......still alot of work and money, but is doable. ANyways all of this HP in a S chasis car is probably way over kill for what most of you want. You just get all high strung and want to be able to say you have alot of horsepower. I would suggest you feel 300-400 hp first in this car and you'd probably shit yourself. AWDSR20 05-30-2006, 10:47 PM hey david did you need to do a right hand drive conversion to fit the rb26 into your 240? i'm not david..but yeah humm...NO u don't need the RHD S13 for the swap. David_NISMO 06-01-2006, 02:44 AM No RHD conversion necessary. I didn't have a clue what I was doing, so I just copied what mckinney did with their DP by just looking at their pictures. Since then I've learned the real trick. Purchase the HKS, or knock off, Dump pipes. Cut the 3 bolt flange off of the one you plan on using for the front turbo and turn it 90 degrees and go between the steering column and the unibody frame rail. I plan on redoing mine and going that route bythe end of next month. Right now I'm choking off my exhaust by running 2" pipes off of each turbo. Combined that's 2.8" but it could be sooo much better. Plus I need to ditch those restrictive dump housings. Dyno247365 06-01-2006, 03:02 AM All I can say is here we go again, fork up 5-10 grand for this. We need more STICKIES!! S13_RB26_DRFT 06-06-2006, 04:50 PM do it! its worth while! :P J_Swigz 06-06-2006, 05:31 PM It's time this thread died. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
