anyone know who sells inexpensive rear spoilers for these things? it's a 1990 white 240sx... mom is gonna get a new car and since these things get nothing for a trade in at the dealer she's giving it to me, AFAIK it needs an oil pan gasket and valve cover gasket, and when some jerkoffs stole it they took out the stereo and ripped the rear spoiler (stock i think) off the trunk, probably from trying to open it (gets kinds sticky, and spoiler was cracking underneath) by using it as a handle.... it was just a flat type spoiler that attached directly to the trunk, it raised up maybe 2 inches at the most...just want to make it look stock as normal, holes in the trunk = bad news so.... thanks.

Superchagers r for LS1s and 4.6s, get a turbo.

Lemme guess, you grew up around domestics?

superchargers aren't as efficient with the 240 as a turbo.. check this:

http://www.240sx.org/faq/articles/superchargers.htm

i just did a google to find where superchargers are sold and i couldn't find anything but shitty ebay "supercharger turbos".. you don't want one of those. if anything, try to find out if you can get the blower off an xterra.. they had a 4-cyl supercharged engine at some point.. maybe there's some mods you can do to your engine and the blower to make it fit.. otherwise, you would be better off with a turbo.. its cheaper and will give you better results.. not to mention much more simple

yeah..... i own a civic though, i like superchargers cause it's less to maintain, i'm not into racing.... just like some extra power for passing joe civilian taking up 2 lanes on the freeway.... i know turbos have more power, but also require cool down periods, intercooler etc.... if they don't make them thats fine.... the spoiler looks like the one on the HB in your sig, having no luck finding a factory replacement :banghead: closest looking one is a wangan or something like that

edit: hmmm i thought SC were simpler? since they ran off a belt.... will check it out....thanks

The Xterra had a Supercharged V6 didn't it? And you can just make a bracket and bolt on a supercharger to a KA, but it's still better to go turbo, but you could always try the supercharger thing, would be unique.

hmmm i found garrett T28BB turbo's for the 240sx at a price of between $700 and $800, i know you get what you pay for but why are these cheaper than the $3000 turbos you see? surely this isn't just a slap on and go thing?

You will need alot more for a setup. I don't wanna get into it so just look up in the FAQs.

the 3000 turbos your seeing are turbo its. a good turbo will cost u like 700-800 if that. as for the spoiler just fill the holes it will be less expensive.

i see....i'm assuming the kit includes everything you need for a n/a car, instead of buying everything piece by piece.... cant seem to find kits for this car though (KA24e ?) seem to only find the turbo itself (actuator?) and theres like a crap load of other parts needed, yeah i'm probably stupid if i cant find a kit ofr this thing through google.

If you are just looking for a couple extra horses, its probably not worth it in the end to get a supercharger, just go with the general bolt ons and see if that satisfys you...

nothing, just found out you need a whole bunch of other stuff besides the actual turbo.... manifold, intercooler blah blah.... bunch of tiny pieces

just get a small ass t25 or something, hold boost to 4-6 psi, and you dont even need an intercooler. just make sure your cooling is up to the task and youll be fine. a turbo that small wont lag at all.

vairox
02-27-2006, 01:29 PM
but won't you still need a manifold for it and all the other stuff? how much of a HP gain do you think it would give a stock 240? ill check it out, thanks

but finding a turbo manifold is still easier and cheaper than trying to source a supercharger. id bet youll get around 150-160whp on an otherwise stock SOHC motor. that sounds like its fast enough to satisfy your needs. and to all people who disagree with me, superchargers operate at 6 or so psi without an intercooler, why cant a turbo? boost is boost, both get heated before entering the engine. simple as that. all youll need is a custom downpipe and finding a blowoff valve(recirculate so your MAF wont fuck up your A/F ratio)
true you will need cool-off time, but turbo timers are 90 bucks or so and its worth it.

on a semi-side note, you really dont even need a blowoff valve on a turbo car, but the constant compressor surge will cause your turbo to break sooner.

is that in addition to the 140 from the engine, or just add 10 to 20 hp ?

turbo, manifold, intercooler (if bigger than t25), downpipe, oil lines, blowoff valve and timer (good idea)

slideways...
02-27-2006, 11:17 PM
not in addition. your car doesnt make 140 whp. it makes 140 crank hp. figure about 105-110 whp.

youll need a manifold, boost controller(you can find a manual controller for cheap), turbo(look for an internal wastegate turbo), downpipe, blowoff valve, oil lines, intake pipe, filter. if you want it intercooled, youll need an intercooler(i suggest looking for a factory silvia sidemount because they are cheap and bolt right in) and piping. if you want to boost more than just a small amount, youll need to address fuel management and extra fuel, just like in a supercharger.
oh and the size of the turbo isnt as big a deal as the boost pressure youll be running.

one other thing i didnt think of that maybe you can research or someone else can answer:
if you have a wastegate set to 8 psi and you only want to run 5, can you even do that with a boost controller? possibly you need a wastegate spring designed for 5 psi...

id suggest at least 370cc SR injectors and an SAFC or FMU...

how exactly does a turbo timer work

sidewayzS13
02-28-2006, 01:10 PM
you turn you car off but the turbo timer keep you car running for a preset amount of time to let the turbo cool down. so you dont have to sit in your car and wait

also the weird thing with this car is the check engine light is always on, she had to come up with some story to get the tech to smog it (they wont do it with the CEL on), sucks not having OBD2....

what is everyone's opinion on the body kits on ebay? for instance, this one

http://tinyurl.com/rm42p

why are they so cheap? made out of papier mache?

go to "240SX KA24E & KA24DE Products" thats a simple turbo kit, for cheap, and all you would have to buy then is more minor stuff.

as R.W. would say...done and done.
