Well, I bought a 2001 LX. Pretty decent car, and interior is high quality for an "economy" car. Power is very, very poor IMO, but my other car is a 2002 Camaro SS.
I tested the gas mileage. On my first test, I filled up the tank, and drove as conservatively as possible, not going over 70mph on the highway and not revving over 3K rpm in lower gears. Result? 36mpg! :) Not bad! This is combine highway(80%)/city(20%). My next test, I filled up and this time drove like I normally would, winding out the gears to 3500-4000, and driving about 75-80mph on the highway. I also had a few passing situations on the highway in which I was really standing on the gas. To my surprise, this time I got 39mpg! :eek: :screwy: Same combined highway/city driving, and this was in colder weather! Oh well.
Anyway, I am happy with the gas mileage!
My Civic has 100,000 miles on it.

Of course power is poor. It has half the cylinders of your other car & has less displacement than soda bottle. :rofl:

39 mpg with that kind of driving? I know it can be possible , but...I think you may have calculated it wrong. Be sure to use the same gas station both times you fill up, and always fill up until you hear the "click" of the pump, dont add any more gas after that. Before you start the car again, reset the trip meter to 0, then next time you fill up (also to a "click" - at the same gas station as before) divide the miles driven by the number of gallons filled (to the nearest 100th). That'll get you the most accurate results.

If you still get the same mpg, then you are one lucky guy.

Actually, that is exactly the way I did it, except I reset the trip odemeter immediately after starting the car. I hope I can keep getting this mileage. :) The only explanation I can think of is that in the second test, I was riding the bumper of the people in front of me more often (more left lane driving, and lots of people hogging the left lane here) and was actually "drafting" the person in front of me. :grinyes: :grinyes: :lol:

Umm yeah, even like you said, ECONOMY car :D

You can dump a couple hundred bucks into it to improve that and I'm sure you'll enjoy driving it a little more. I'm sure you will enjoy your civic, they are great little cars, comfortable, fun to drive, and yes.... great gas mileage. :)

The person who owned it before you probably did a good job if keeping up with the maintenance.
