I had a local shop replace my timing belt and water pump. Since the installation the car starts normally but has no acceleration until it warms up. Once warm the car seems to run okay.

I took the car back to the shop where they verified cam timming and corrected some vacuume hoses that were loose. They changed nothing. The car does not accelerate and there seems to be a little rpm variation with a load when stopped.

My question is has anyone any knowledge of this type of problem. Is it timing? vacuume? speed sensors? etc. Any help or insight would be very helpful.

P.S. my username is close to the name of this local shop.

After reading about a 1992 toyota camry timing belt done at Pep Boys in the Toyota forum; I am convinced that the shop I used installed the timing belt with the crank either advanced or retarded to the cams. The shop has agreed to check and correct the problems I have with performance. I can't wait!

i have the same problem with my V6 3VZ-FE.

I found the problem was getting chronic when the spark leads were old, replaced these and it is much better. Best to look at the distributor rotor as well and make sure the main coil is secure and not arc-ing against any engine part (look at it in the dark).

The timing was off by one tooth and the temperature sensor was off by more than 21°F. This and a transmission flush including a BG additive all helped the car to perform like new. A somewhat painful experience but turned out better than I could have done myself.

P.S. Thank you Vince Developer for your insight I will keep an eye on the ingnition components.

I recently helped my friend correct this problem in his 92 V6. Just simply clean out the motor. Clean the throttle body and seafoam the engine plus tighten the throttle cable. Should clear up the problems of vibrations, loss of power.

Sounds a lot like my car before we replaced our distributor/plugwires/plugs.
