Hey ppl, I have a 93 camry with 100k on it. Car runs good but I have a power steering leak. I have to fill the resevoir once a week. In a week it goes from the max line to almost nothing. I pinpointed that the leak is coming from the pass steering gear boot after careful inspection. My question is I know the boot is to keep out dust and dirt from the seal but can I buy a new seal and have it installed with a new boot. I ask that because some people told me that they replaced the whole rack but that cost alot of $$ and I just have that leak from that one side.

What do you guys think about the additives, I know most of them dont work but does bar leaks or lucas power steering leak stop help with seal leaks.

Best bet is to have a light and shine it down the rear of the engine bay and have a friend sit in your car and turn it left/right. That's how I found out my Rack and Pinion is shot. If you see any fluid seeping out through your seals, it's toast.

I have pinpointed that it is coming from the seal at the passenger side steering gear boot. With a case like this with a leak at one side, could the seal and boot be replaced without having to go through a major overhaul. Do any of the fluid additive work to stop these kind of leaks because I am looking at a bottle of lucas and it says it especially works on rack & pinion leaks and I just want to know if people have had success with that, etc.,

I have a 93 LE 4 cyl also.

Make sure that is ware it is comming from. I thought I had the same problem and found out it was leaking from the high pressure hose on top of the powersteering pump. There's a vacume switch that is sandwiched between the powersteering pump and the high pressure hose. The powersteering fluid was running down the powersteering pump and dripping on the boot. If this is where it is leaking from loosen the bolt that goes through the highpressure hose then tighten the adapter that is underneath the hose that goes through the vacume valve .
This might not be your problem but I thought I would share this information with you.

tell you the truth the leak has almost completely stopped. I drained the resevoir and put in gold eagle power steering stop leak and after a week and a half all looks good. The level stays the same and only a drip instead of a medium size circle of fluid is on the floor. I'm satisfied with how it is.

Don't mean to rain on your parade but chances are you've made a temporary fix. At least you've got peace of mind for a while. In the mean time scour the internet for the best prices for a new steering gear. You can even get them used from a recycler on-line. Please let us know
