Now look what they want to do!rimfire,22 02-20-2006, 06:55 PM Hello to all, OK.... In a couple months I'm gonna have the timeing belt changed and have the camshaft seal replaced cuz it's only been about 20,000 miles and the dealership still wants those changed. To say the elast I'm VERY skeptical cuz they act funny when I raised or told them that it was faily recently done. OK..... Guess what they want to do now? They told me that the power steering AND brake fluids need to be flushed-out and replaced. Question. Am I getting the shaft AGAIN? My brakes are fine so why does the fluid need to be flushed and replaced before it needs new pads? rimfire,22:screwy::banghead: G-man422 02-20-2006, 07:01 PM sounds kinda fishy. rimfire,22 02-20-2006, 08:09 PM sounds kinda fishy. G-man422, You bet it sounds fishy. I mean it didn't get driven much but it was started and dirven at least twice per week? They still say the belts rot away from non-usage so it doesn't matter how many miles it has. However my receipts say it based on my miles. Go figure? If I had to I'll give names cuz in the city it seems that they milk everyone. These guys have to be stoped. I wonder if any reps from Toyota read these posts? I like to take good care of my cars BUT I should be ripped-off in excess money for it. rimfire,22:screwy: :banghead: :nono: G-man422 02-21-2006, 07:52 AM Dont let them rip you off. if you have to, go with them when they take in your car, and ask them to show you EXACTLY whats wrong. That way, you can see for yourself if it needs new belts, or anything else. Daniel M. Dreifus 02-21-2006, 09:50 AM Hello to all, OK.... If it's been five years, dealers will recommend those items. Personally, I'd rather buy the tools and do all my own work, but I do believe it is a good idea to keep all the fluids clean if you want to keep the car for a long time. There's another post recently, about someone with a leaking power steering rack seal - whereas keeping the power steering fluid clean can make those seals last longer and save a very expensive repair. Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the atmosphere over time, generally recommended to replace every two years. Belts, I don't know - on Toyota, belts and hoses seem to last an extra long time, but I change the belts when changing the timing belt, just because they're off anyway, and then I don't have to worry about them. rimfire,22 02-21-2006, 02:05 PM ============ OK, it's only been 20K miles - but how long in time? Daniel, Admitly yes it's been about 4 years BUT it still was driven at least 5 miles per week when my mom had it. That part I made sure of that but still the belts turn with usage. The brake and power steering fluid I can kinda understand the reasoning behine it. Those I don't mind spending the money to do those things. Over all I don't mind spending my money on the Camary at all. It's saving me allot of money on gas and in Calfornia that means allot. I just want an honest delaership that'll tell me the strainght scoop and not steer me crooket all because of the bosses bottom line. I feel they've been stealing money from my mom for years. I'll give names if it helps cuz I don't want others to get ripped off. Anyway if it'll keep for about a couple of months I intend to have Longo Toyota handle the job cuz the're open 7 days a week for service instead of the Los Angeles city slickers whick is only open 6 days. I love the idea of being open on Sundays. rimfire,22:banghead::screwy::nono: vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
