high idle and surge on 95mysticfire 02-19-2006, 10:54 PM i just bought a 95 metro and for some reason it idles at around 1500, and sometimes it will surge to 2000 for around 5 seconds. i have no clue if there is a problem with the car, or if the idle adjustment screw needs to be adjusted. and if thats the case, i have no experience with that on a metro. any help would be apreciated carpenter_jai 02-20-2006, 03:19 AM Idle speed on late model metros is controlled by the ECM and is apparantly not adjustable. Double check that the accelerator cable is not too tight, it should have 1/8th inch play. Jai Metro Mighty Mouse 02-21-2006, 02:49 PM I'm glad this came up as I have been trying to figure out what went screwy with mine a couple of years ago. I ended up bypassing the whole ISC with a switch and a button to increase or decrease idle speed. It works kind of cool but the oil change guys always think it's an alarm and push the button, next thing you know their asking my wife why the engine is racing.:p It is still possibly a case where I broke the ISC, but the temp sensor is something else to check. The way it is now when I plug the ISC harness it won't idle, it just surges over and over. carpenter_jai 02-21-2006, 03:51 PM Jon, You've pulled your engine yourself, and you get somebody to change the oil for you??? Jai mysticfire 02-21-2006, 04:35 PM accelerator cable has good play in it. its been a while since ive looked for a vacuum leak, and the vacuum lines in my metro look horrifying to trace. i have a/c but dont know how to check that valve. ive also found out that its only getting 37mpg. its a 1.0 with a 5 speed, what could be making it suck gas. it also just got a tune up Metro Mighty Mouse 02-21-2006, 04:42 PM Jon, You've pulled your engine yourself, and you get somebody to change the oil for you??? Jai Occasionally, I currently live in an apartment complex, so that is not conducive to doing it myself. Also I was driving a truck for most of a year so I wasn't home much and didn't want to do oil changes when I was. carpenter_jai 02-22-2006, 01:20 AM ive also found out that its only getting 37mpg. its a 1.0 with a 5 speed, what could be making it suck gas. it also just got a tune up I also have a 95 3 cyl hb, and I get 35 mpg. I just did a tune up, replaced plug wires, distributer, rotor, and not too long ago, I upgraded to platinum plugs. The result? Worse gas mileage, but it is running way better. I figure my poor gas mileage is due to an ageing engine, with low compression, 150, 130, 130. I have 121k miles on it, and I'm looking for a JDM engine. I hope that solves my problems. One other thing I do that lowers my mileage is using MTBE gas. I am having second thoughts about that, since I've heard that it isn't any better for the environment, cause making alcohol requires alot of energy. Anyway, good luck! Jai mysticfire 02-23-2006, 07:33 AM ok, i downloaded the manual. i still need to know how to check the vacuum lines, i dont remember how. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
