Back in the GAME !grhand96 02-18-2006, 08:38 AM I've had 2 Toyota P-ups in the past but lost the last to unfortunate circumstances :frown: . I've been w/out a truck for two years and realy miss the practicality of a truck!! So I jumped at the chance at a 1989 toyota for only $300. Knowing it may need a "little" work... Ok.. the basics. 196,000 miles, 22 R-E EFI, 4 wheel drive, a few holes in the bed and couple in the cab between the bed and cab. To get it started, I used a can of starter fluid and replaced the 15 amp EFI fuse with a 20 amp fuse in the fusebox under the hood. (the 15 kept blowing). The motor blows oil from around the timming chain cover..behind the harmonic balancer.(I've been told this is normal for 196k's) It does move under its own power.. but only in 4 wheel drive.. after pumping the clutch 8 or 10 times to get in to gear.. and then it stays moving even with the clutch in.. When I put it into 2 wheel drive.. you can shift through all the gears with out the clutch and the truck won't move!! My first task is clutch and breaks. I know I need to bleed the clutch.. hopefully that will take care of the "pumping the clutch" to get it in gear. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance G-man422 02-18-2006, 08:47 AM Congrats on you truck! good luck w/ any repairs aswell. axekick 02-24-2006, 07:28 AM Have you worked on a 22re before? I have torn into mine and find it to be surprisingly simple. Obviously you have to get the clutch working, but after that, you should get a timing kit due to the amount of miles. It comes with a front seal and timing cover gasket. That will solve your front end oil problem. grhand96 02-24-2006, 09:57 AM :grinyes: I haven't had the chance to get into it yet. Western Pennsylvania is not real kind when it comes to weather. I'm trying to locate a garage to work in. Thanks for the tip.. I'm anxious to get started!! axekick 02-24-2006, 10:14 AM Oh yeah, I forget that everyone doesn't live in Texas. Good luck with your project. I have gotten some good help on this site, and I'd like to contribute, so definetly ask if you run into problems! http://http://us.a2.yahoofs.com/users/43fdccbbz445676ff/8eec/__sr_/6decscd.jpg?phArx_DB.nHUwxRC grhand96 02-26-2006, 02:19 PM Look at all that freekin' SNOW in the background!! Welcome to western pennsylvania:grinyes: axekick 02-27-2006, 07:21 AM I saw snow in 1984! grhand96 03-04-2006, 03:50 PM Ok.. finally a place to work. I blead the clutch..no bubbles. I started the truck.. the clutch felt great. Truck goes into gear nice. as soon as I move it, it engages nice, but it wants to keep moving..even with the clutch in. after you force it out of gear.. it won't go back into gear with out pumping the clutch 4 or 5 times, other wise it grinds. I'm assuming either the clutch master cylinder or the release cylinder is bad. Which would be the first to replace. any suggestions?? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
