Can you just go and buy a battery and just start hooking stuff up to it? like a neon?

Neon = Positive wire to switch, Wire from switch to battery ... Negative wire to ground <^ will that work?

I can't see why it wouldn't. Positive " + " Red......Negative " - " Black
