206, the best looking econobox in the World?

I think it is, and it has to be one of the best performing as well.....

I love the Cabrio, but they don't have it here in Canada, infact, we got no Peugeot at all...

I love the 206 styling too, but, alas, it is pitifully slow. I read in my EUROPEAN (got it on vacation) Top Gear that it does 0-60 in 12.1 seconds. There may be a mope powerful version, but it can't be enough to make it really quick. I think that could be fixed, though, look at Grunholm, he won the WRC championship last year with a 206.
I also like the cabrio, it is much better than those firefly or cavalier convertables.:rolleyes:

there is a faster version, its the 206 gti official 0-60 is just over 8 seconds but alot of people reckon its quicker

8 seconds is slow!!! I want mine to go in the 6's at least. Asw with everything, a 4-second car would be possible, with the $$$$.

Gosh I love the 206. I wish they'd start selling those here in the States. Have you seen the rally-spec 206's? They have like a tiptronic shifter behind the steering wheel. It's a small flat ring that coes around the back of the steering wheel itself. Pull towards you to shift up, and push to shift down. Cool! :D

Hehe :) Pug 206 was the best selling car here last year. Love the styling (as well as the styling of the whole Pug 1997 lineup until they made it too sophisticated). There are also quite a few 206 cc - s here. Love them. My girlfriend also adores them!

We have the 206 here in NZ and i have to say i like them.
There a two new ones in the local dealers at the moment with body kits etc and they look great :) :)

Unfortunately, the 206 wouldnt sell well, as it is too small for huge-assed americans. Thats just the way it is. It sucks, but its true:(

I agree.. The WRC spec 206 is sweet.. Its just ashame we cant get any of the cool little cars in the US..

In NZ we have the 206, it is a good seller, although the Toyota Echo, Renault Clio and Holden Barina seem to keep it from getting the title of top-selling supermini, I think it is a shame that we don't see ones like that one in the picture over here, but the GTi and CC(Convertable) look sporty enough so its not all bad

I myslef have a 607

i love the looks of that 206...extremely mean...and with the add of some stickers or air brushing..i think it will look better than that...i really love 206...

i dont really like the 206. the styling of the WRC and that kit car are pretty cool, but the normal one is well, very normal.
The 206 Gti is also not a match for its spiritual father, the legendary 205 1.9 Gti

Naah 206 is a refreshing burst after all the dull superminis from Japan

those front lights look pretty jap to me... look at the clio, big, goofy, headlights. Jap again.
look at the alfa 147. Now that's european

If I can find a scanner, I will post an awesome pic of the new 206 and Civic blended together! Give me a couple of days...

the 206 isnt a supermini either. the 106 is. the 206 is somewhere between the 106 and 307 so i felt it was ok to compare it to the (slightly) larger 147... anyway i dont see why the size of the car matters. styling is styling.

Yeah, but it doesnt mean its impossible to build good looking small cars. The truth is that most companies rely too heavily on customer surveys when designing a car.. what happens is that there's a big compromise as peoples' opinions are mixed, and the car ends up looking bland and just like everything else on the market... enter the 206.... when will car comps start listening to designers again??

the 206's may be slow but if you lived in europe where gas is $4-5 a gallon would you want a fast 206 that gets 25mpg or a slow one that still has awsome handling but gets 40-50mpg?

The difference in fuel consumption is nowhere near what you think it is. The hottest 206 (the Gti) achieves a commendable 36mpg whereas the slowest one, the 1.1 (which is reeeeeeally slow) does 46mpg. The diesels are the ones that achieve 50mpg. So it depends what you want from the car. Sure they will all handle fairly well, but the Gti will still be the best in that department, and will have a much more responsive engine for you to really enjoy a spirited drive. So its quicker, better handling, and 'only' 10mpg less than the snail-paced 1.1.... Gti, please.

Let me clear tihs up there is the City car class that the 1O6 competes in with the MAtiz, Smart and KA, then there is the Supermini class that the 2O6 competes in with the Polo, Clio and Logo, followed by the large hatch class in which the 3O7 competes against the Civic, Corolla and Golf

I've just built a system (for off-road trialling) to allow the user to brake any wheel or combination of wheels at the touch of a button. The button can take any form - push button, lever, joystick; and whislt watching a rally stage in the 206 it struck me that a steering coloumn mounted ring would be an ideal control - when you want to turn a tight reight you need to brake the inside right wheel. Instead of pulling a lever on the centre console to do this it'd be great to just pull the right hand side of a ring mounted behind the steering wheel - this way you can grab the wheel again instantly.

I'd like to acknowledge the inspiration for the idea.

Would appreciate if you could email rather than post on the forum because I don't spedn that much time on the web-based forums.

(Before anybody asks if they can 'test-pilot' the system I'll say that I already have a test vehicle/driver lined up, but I'll take your name/email and keep you informed if you like!)

2O6's are very nice cars- but they need to fix the ergonomics :)

Chris : there's a new version of the 206 with 180 hp, the 206 HP available in April 2003. It'll cost about 21 000 € (US$22 000 ; £14 000). I don't know the 0-60, but if the GTI (S16 in France) does it in 8 seconds with 45hp less, you could infer the figures.

BingBingMa : Alas, today, Peugeot doesn't sale in the USA, but contact www.frenchrev.com, they could inform you. And you've to know that Peugeot would come back in about 3 years in the USA and Canada, it's not official, but PSA Group doesn't say the contrary. ;)
