Blow-off Valve

So my buddy Jack bought a GReddy Type-S bov and he isn't happy with the high pitch sound. Anyone know of a bov that has a low pitch? I mean the loudness isn't a problem, it's just the actual high sound. If it were loud and dampened... like a deep release of air... I'm finding it difficult to explain the sound he's looking for and the sound that he has.

Basically does anyone know of a bov that has a loud but low sound? Not a high pitch sound?

God I'm so confusing.

the sound is going to vary a lot depending on how much boost hes running.

I love it when someone points out something obvious that I never considered, makes me realize that I'm truly an idiot

the apex-i twin chamber sounds like a loud compressed air can. Not a high pitch thing. Also makes a cool butterfly noise under lower boost *8 and under*

Listen to mine in the video we made under racing o/t (the relic movie)

Is it possible to pipe it away to a remote location? Where does it blow off to? the atmosphere? possible way to muffle it somehow.

well, not sure if you could, but i would just put it on the i/c piping. some bovs vent into the atmosphere while others just recirculate it into the intake pipe (before the compressor)

put a turkey call over it, or a whoopie coushion, or any other air-driven toy. you and everyone around you will have an instant party.

the TURBO XS RFL is nice, a large woosh of air.

Yeah the RFL gives a nice quick whoosh instead of the whistle that comes from the ported style bovs.

sometimes the sound is muffled by fitting a small air filter used to oil breathers onto the outlet of the BOV.

that butterfly/chopping sound you guys are hearing under low boost is actually compressor surge....that's not a good thing

The stock diverter valve on my GTC makes that sound at high or low boost. Some just sound that way, it isn't necessarily compressor surge, and yes I've owned more than one GTC, they all made that sound, and the turbos have lasted plenty long.

what he said. If you listen to race cars at a strip, you'll hear a lot of cars do it, and many of them have HUGE BOV's.
