Red car paintSimon123 02-13-2006, 03:25 PM corolla 93 ,colour Super red (toyota code -3E5) Dear Friends, On my car I have noticed small chips of paint come off, is it ok to leave it, or should I touch it up with a scratch repair pen? More importantly I have noticed that the lacquer has started to come off on the edges on a door, I assume this will start to happen with the rest of the body. What is Lacquer? Is it possible to repair a small patch? How can I protect the current lacquer? I read somewhere that the colour red is more prone to damage than any other colour, true? As always I appreciate any feedback you may have. Regards, Simon SpinnerCee 02-13-2006, 06:29 PM You car does not have a lacquer -- it is a base-clear finish -- It's actually pretty hard to repair without proper touch-up paint that will dry to a finish "like" the factory basecoat-clearcoat without sanding etc... So just get the right color touch-up pen for the scratches and small chips and use shaker-can for larger areas. Color matching is often difficult because after time the sun [UV] changes the color of every paint finish over time, so just make sure you get the right color for the "closest" match. I never heard anything about red being a diffucult color [other than it being a cop magnet]. White hides surface imperfections way better than black though. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
