Crankshaft differences in 1st and 2nd gen 3sgte's??Vip09 02-08-2006, 12:01 PM So a little history.. the engine in my alltrac is toast.. I bought a built block which turned out to be from an ST165 all-trac (1st gen 3sgte). I bought a gasket set from toyota for an ST185. Everything is going smooth until we put the rear main seal on and slide the rear oil seal retainer over the end of the crankshaft. We noticed a large gap between the rear main seal and the part of the crank where the flywheel bolts to. That peice on the crank measures smaller in diameter than the crank we pulled out of the 2nd gen 3sgte that was in my alltrac. Also the places on the crank where the main bearing caps and rod bearing caps bolt to measure smaller in diameter compared to the 2nd gen crank out of my alltrac. So right now, I know my ARP flywheel bolts that I ordered won't work with this crank.. I'm not sure if the fidanza flywheel I got will work.. or the RPS clutch either.. ugh. This sucks. The crank on the left (darker one) is the 2nd gen 3sgte crank we pulled out of my blown motor. The one on the left is the mystery crankshaft. I supposed it's from a 1st gen 3sgte, but I never knew it would be that different.. could it be a 5sfe crank? http://members.aol.com/vipmetal09/alltrac28.jpg http://members.aol.com/vipmetal09/alltrac29.jpg http://members.aol.com/vipmetal09/alltrac30.jpg 91 Celica St 02-08-2006, 04:58 PM yea there diffrent cranks, your in luck though as the journals are the same size, use the 2nd gen crank, itll work with the first gten block, and yes that is a first gen 3s-gte crank, its an 8-bolt flywheel pattern and the 5sfe is only a 6 bolt IMO that actually looks like a 1st gen 3sge crank, not a 3s-gte crank whod u buy it from and whats supposed to be "built about it" 91 Celica St 02-08-2006, 04:58 PM oh yea are there oil squirters on both sides of the journals on both crank or only 1 or what? if theres only 1 set of oil squirters on it then its a 3sge block Vip09 02-09-2006, 01:59 AM There are no oil squirters at all.. I noticed them on my 2nd gen block, but there aren't any on my new block. I say it's "built" because it's bored .040 over and crosshatched, wiseco 9:1 pistons, eagle rods, king bearings... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
