on a 1996 blazer, what is the part under the rotor button that has a small harness going to it. and will it cause a hard start or a no start?

i am having a hard and a no start situation. i have checked the distributor and button once and put it back on and the blazer started rite up.. then it quit again a week later. it actually stalled on the road this time.. so i replaced the distributor and button this time and it started rite up again.. i am not sure if i actually fixed it with the distributor or the fact that i am messing around with the part and harness under the rotor button that is causing it to start.

by the way the distributor and the button looked good to me.

not sure if it is the same for a 96. but in my 95 it was the camshaft position sensor underneath the distributor. i had to replace that once because of hard starting, fixed my problem right up.

yes i think it is a camshaft sensor.. and will it cause a rough idle also... i am having a very hard start and sometimes a no start.. and everytime i mess the the distributor area it will start up... maybe a bad or shorted camshaft sensor?.

I'm not sure either about a 96, but on my 93, if you are talking about inside the distributor under the rotor, it is the Ignition Module. I've had to replace mine a couple of times for no start problems and hard start when hot problems. Some where around 96 I think they stopped putting them inside the distributor.
