Got a check engine light on 97 villager. Local auto part store said codes were knock sensor (PO325) and torque converter (PO744). The van has been been slow shifting into gear the first few miles but then shifts ok. What is involved in fixing the torque converter. The van has 110K miles and I do not want to put a lot of cash into repairs. Thanks for the help.

As far as fixing the Torque Converter U just have to replace it. That means dropping the transmission out and replacing the converter. Good luck as it takes a while to do. I had to drop mine just to change out a two dollar freeze plug. If U have never done a front wheel drive transmission before U might want to read up on it or just take it to the shop.:smokin:

What grade of fuel are you putting in? If you're using the cheap stuff the engine will knock and you'll get that PO325 code. Only use 91 or above octane. Clear the codes and see if the same problem returns.
If the TC is on the way out, best replace it.

Hi, Common sense rules on this one....REMEMBER!!!!!!!!!!! For any automatic trans to function properly in ALL respects you must first have, A propeerly functioning engine , In other words proper horse power output in all ranges...See Ya, Clay..

Hello, I had the exact same codes on my 98. I had no choice but to replace the transmission. As soon as I put another used one in, the check engine light went off. I thought I had to replace the knock sensor too but everything cleared up once the tranny was replace. Had one delivered used from cross country $450.00 included delivery and only had 62k on it.

Nissans, Mercury bad design.

Good luck. Allen
