Got 1997 Pontiac Bonneville Scanned at local Autozonemwalcz 02-05-2006, 06:52 PM Alright, just as you guys suggested, I got my '97 Bonneville scanned at the local autozone, because the check engine light has been on. The code that came up was P0440, so if anybody has any suggestions as to what I should do next, then please Help Me!!!!!!!!! I would appreciate it very much! Thanks jdq 02-06-2006, 07:35 AM Well p0440 is evaporator emissions , check your evap cannister connections. richtazz 02-07-2006, 09:53 AM yep, p0440 indicates an evaporative emissions malfunction, and may require a more detailed scan to pinpoint the culprit. Do as jdq suggested and check your wiring to the canister and the solenoid on the front of the engine as well as the vacuum lines. If there is no obvious issue, you'll need a shop diagnosis so you don't have to throw parts at it. 40yearbonnie 02-12-2006, 08:34 PM Alright, just as you guys suggested, I got my '97 Bonneville scanned at the local autozone, because the check engine light has been on. The code that came up was P0440, so if anybody has any suggestions as to what I should do next, then please Help Me!!!!!!!!! I would appreciate it very much! Thanks This code ate my lunch a couple of years ago. After replacing the gas tank cap and a lot of research, the problem turned out to be with a tiny vacuum line that runs in front of the front valve cover. This is a small vacuum line that supposedly connects the gas tank to a sensor that monitors leaks. For some reason the GM engineers put did not run this line directly to the sensor. they broke the line a few inches before it reaches the sensor and put a straight through connector in this line. The leak in my car was at that connector. I cut about 1/8" off the vacuum line on each side of that connector and the code never came back. I hope this helps. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
