I just bought a 95 aspire, very happy except for when i put it in reverse the rear wheels screech, sounds like metal on metal. Only happens in reverse.

Does anyone know what this could be?

Is this manual or auto?

Have a buddy with a manual...the reverse gear in his tranny has broken teeth. If he tries to back up...It goes BOP! BOP! BOP! quite loudly. The sound, tho, is in the engine bay.

Check your parking brake - may need adjustment?
It has rear drums? - Inspect them.

Or do like my buddy - always park on a hill and Fred Flintstone it out or park where you drive out forward.
