The strut itself is through the trunk? Wow. Or do I have that wrong? Pics plz.

If that's really the problem, your problem is more likely the suspension geometry itself that is wacked out of place. I'd take it to a shop.

STOP posting unless you have new information or somebody responds. It's obvious what's happened and what you need to do to fix it.

Thanks for the pic.

Forgive me if the questions are dumb, but I'll ask anyway; does the car jolt, are there odd noises, or are there any other obvious symptoms? Does anything else look obviously out of place? The strut is tweaked posterior of where is should be. Look at it's lower connection point. My guess is that it pivoted out and forced the strut up. Wow...

This looks like a sure trip to a mechanic, but it'd be cool if you had an idea of what about before getting there.

Typical tests for checking if your shocks/struts are blown:
1) Lean on the corner of the car and release, to see in how many oscillations the dampener stops the spring's motion. Like, how many times does it bounce. One and a half is typical. Leaning on something as... fucked up, could be a bad idea. I'd check the suspension underneath to ensure not doing further damage, first.
2) If you remove the shock/strut you can test it between your hands.
3) If you notice liquid on the body of the shock/strut, it's probably done for.

Let us know what you do. Sorry, bro.

Wow the top of the strut support rusted through. Similar thing happened to my gsx but on the front. DON'T drive you'll cause more damage and possibly an accident. You need to pull the shock and survey the damage, depending on you mechanical abilities this could be extremely costly. Good Luck.
