99 Crown Vic trans question

I've got a 99 cv pi with about 150K on it.
The other day I parked the car as normal. The next time I wanted to use it, I couldn't get the thing out of park. It starts fine, steering wheel turns free but it seems locked in park for some reason. I've engaged the brake pedal but still it's locked in park.
I started the car just like I've done 1,000 time before and this time it just won't come out of park.
Anyone have any clue as to where I should begin looking?
Thanks in advance.

Check to see if the brake lights work. If not, the problem is in the brake switch or connector. Ford's connector is bad about breaking and causing this problem. Look there first. If you need to drive it, and the brake lights work, turn key to the on position, place shifter in neutral, start car and go. You will need to do this each time you start car. Remember, if the brake lights do not work, do not drive

Thanks for your reply. Actually, the car is my sister in law's. I had her check the brakes last night and the lights don't light. So, this weekend I'll be looking into the brake switch connector and fuse. Should'nt be too bad.
