Alright here is the deal I have a 1985 Fiero gt 3spd thm125c automatic 2.8 lt mpfi v6. Now PLEASE do not bash me for this there is no point i am going to do it anyway. I am putting this in this sub forum because i can't really think where this belongs

Some friends and i have seen almost everything done to this car and I was thinking hey what has not well a decent turbo 4cyl with a decent tranny. So here is the deal. I am looking at the Sr20det from an anything (if it has the same bolt pattern) Oh and trust me it will fit- one of us has a 500ci motor in his Fiero. Never been taken. I am looking for more of a race car not a drag car.

1. I will need a transversely mounted fwd tranny that will be able to hold to 300hp and 350tq to the wheels. Out of a what? Cost? Where do i get it? Does anyone know the weight of that tranny?

2. How much is the sr20det going to run me for the cheapest? Where? Out of a what? And I need to know the weight of that engine.

3. Has this motor ever been carbureted?

4. For the fuel chip (I assume that it is a 512 chip) is it a 28 bin chip these have?

5. If this cannot be carbed with out making my own manifold. then i will need to have a wiring harness. Do I have to use one that came with a sr20det or can i use a aftermarket wiring harness? The Fiero could use a new harness as it is- being 20 years old.

6. was there/is there a tranny that bolts to a vg30dett? Out of a what? and the weight of that tranny? Cost? Where?

7. All the same questions that i asked about the 2R20det for the vg30dett.

I don't know if i am missing any questions but if there are issues other than complete and utter customization let me know.

this tranny is going to be out of a sentra. it probably won't handle 300hp and 350lb/ft tq.. cost? maybe $1000.. get it from a sentra. probably weighs 2-300lbs.

the sr20det is a FR engine. won't fit in the fiero engine bay. find a sr20de from a sentra and turbo it. that engine might run you $600. probably weighs 5-600lbs

you can't change the chip. tuning is done directly in the ecu.

you can find a sr20det harness for less than $1000. sr20de harness for much less.

the vg30dett tranny. out of a z32. about 300lbs

i think you can figure that out yourself. the fiero engine bay is too small. you'd need to have it in the front of the car. which is probably not easy to do. even then, the vg probably wouldn't fit.

complete and utter customization is the key. you'll need a sr20de out of a newer sentra. i don't have a clue how you'd get the tranny to fit but i'm sure there's a way. once you have the sr20de, you'll probably want to turbo it if your goal is 300/350. big and expensive project. if i were you, i'd just put in the 3800 V6. that'll give the car some balls.

my honest opinion is that your idea is probably one of the hardest swaps i've ever heard. ever. there isn't much point in putting so much work into the fiero when the 3800 will be 1/10 the price and 1/8 the work.
its pretty much next to impossible as far as i know.

OK as i said before it will fit. if my budd can put in a 1970 500ci caddy motor in that thing with a th350 fwd tranny ....yeah it'll fit.

also the 5-6 speed maxima tranny that was hooked up to the 3.5 or the vg30 will that not hook up to the vg30dett as for bolt pattern wise?

And yes i know about the 3800sc if i go 3.8 it would not be worth it for the na only the sc and i like Superchargers but i prefer to adjust boost on the fly. I am designing a system that will run 2 fuel maps so one for good mpg and one for racing. Even if i switch to the gmpg map the sc will not tune down at a push of a button so i will actually be runnng the motor on a different way of feeding it gas so it will not onyl blow up but it might actually blow up.... if you know what i mean. not worth the grand i just spent on a sc. I could turbo a 3.4 tdc or dohc 3.3 3.0 3.1 2.8 but they all need to run off the fiero intake witch is more restrictiv than my gf's mother when it comes to cooking. so no...

I was either going to go 3.5 maxima motor, vg30dett, sr20de or det, 3s-gte, or 4g63- 6 bolt from 92. Why? allreayd built for a turbo. parts for these are cheaper in the long run fr performance and maintence than any of the motors already swaped in the fiero unless someone starts a decent flowing intake for the 2.8 which they won't because it makes no sence to. I am looking at all these motors and tranny sets and seeing which is best, also i am doing this to be different and to waste my money. either way one of these is going to be done. If the sr20de trany from the sentra will nto hold to that much power than i am going to seek the other engine/tranny combos.

you need a FWD sr20det, a bluebird or whatever. I dont know shit about them though. Look in the 200sx(FWD0/ Sentra forums.

well a FWD SR20DET came in the japanese nissan bluebird and pulsar GTI-R
the 5speed FWD tranny is pretty weak though and really cant hold more than 200-250whp. of course if your doing this much fabrication, just take the gears out and get them hardened/cryotreated/ect. whatever else you can do to make them last.

the VG30DETT will be a tight fit regardless because theres so much bullshit on the motor besides the engine. the 300zx bay is ridiculously cramped. itll still fit but you wont find a FWD tranny for it. you could put the maxima VG30DE in and turbo it but it would be lots more work.

id recommend using a 3sgte or even a qr25de. the qr might not make 350whp but itll be plenty torquey. or put in a stroked turbo'd H22 :p

or import an H23A-S. 220hp on that, same as a stock I6 N/A supra!
