Celica GT-S vs. Cobalt SS S/C *Videos*Vip09 01-28-2006, 08:57 PM Last night I had some really good runs with my buddy's Cobalt SS S/C. I still haven't gotten on the dyno to tune my power fc.. so my top end still sucks lol. We're going to race again after I go to the dyno. We did four runs.. 2 1st gear 30mph rolls, a 45mhp roll, and a 50 mph roll. 30mph roll http://thumbs.streetfire.net/C059FE49-4CF5-491D-88C4-27CB824BA9A0.jpg (http://videos.streetfire.net/Player.aspx?fileid=C059FE49-4CF5-491D-88C4-27CB824BA9A0)Click here to see Video (http://videos.streetfire.net/Player.aspx?fileid=C059FE49-4CF5-491D-88C4-27CB824BA9A0) 30mph roll http://thumbs.streetfire.net/001E3642-4149-494B-8AF1-3D8A1EBB7D84.jpg (http://videos.streetfire.net/Player.aspx?fileid=001E3642-4149-494B-8AF1-3D8A1EBB7D84)Click here to see Video (http://videos.streetfire.net/Player.aspx?fileid=001E3642-4149-494B-8AF1-3D8A1EBB7D84) 50mph roll http://thumbs.streetfire.net/8ECEAA46-8700-4EBD-B646-84D03BE17F9C.jpg (http://videos.streetfire.net/Player.aspx?fileid=8ECEAA46-8700-4EBD-B646-84D03BE17F9C)Click here to see Video (http://videos.streetfire.net/Player.aspx?fileid=8ECEAA46-8700-4EBD-B646-84D03BE17F9C) 45mph roll http://thumbs.streetfire.net/8A60568F-C95B-425C-ADDD-751C364D70D9.jpg (http://videos.streetfire.net/Player.aspx?fileid=8A60568F-C95B-425C-ADDD-751C364D70D9)Click here to see Video (http://videos.streetfire.net/Player.aspx?fileid=8A60568F-C95B-425C-ADDD-751C364D70D9) 209 SRT 01-28-2006, 09:35 PM damn dude your vvti screams...........nice kill on the lower rolls but it seems to me that on the higher rolls the cobalt seems to get you........you must be in his good side of his power band........but I bet if you guys went from a dig it would be all you.........good kill........thats a good race for you cause your in the mid 14s and the cobalts are in mid 14s..........nice.... 209 SRT 01-28-2006, 09:37 PM damn 14.5 @ 95mph.............what are your 60''........looks like your a good driver..... Vip09 01-28-2006, 09:42 PM damn 14.5 @ 74mph.............what are your 60''........looks like your a good driver..... My 60' was 2.1. 14.5 @ 95mph.. with stripped interior and all my mods. I got 14.7 @ 95mph stock with full interior.. as you can see, my tune SUCKS on top end (trapping same mph as stock) With stripped interior I should be running High 13's @ 100-101mph with a good tune on the Power FC. 209 SRT 01-28-2006, 09:48 PM high 13s is a nice street speed.... 2000LS1Z28 01-28-2006, 10:13 PM Good runs. Looks like the lower mph rolls goes in your cars favor, but anything above 45 mph puts the Cobalt SS better aligned with its power. PWRDbyUNCLEbens 01-28-2006, 10:37 PM Wow, I didn't know your car was that fast. I'm impressed. But, they are high 14s if driven right nice vids, is it just me or how come i didn't hear the cobalt's supercharger? when i watched bulldog's vids, his supercharger screamed like t3h w1n, maybe i need to turn my volumn up, nice celica and get that dyno yo! my friend is planning to turbo his gts this spring TatII 01-29-2006, 01:45 AM damn that GTS sounds really nice, i'm really lovin your car vip09. and ricer, the reason why you can't hear the SC on the cobalt is because the GTS is just too damn loud. 209 SRT 01-29-2006, 02:33 AM and it doesnt have that drop in filter for the added sound.........lol Vip09 01-29-2006, 03:12 AM *waits for dyno tune* When are you going to get that man? Next week maybe.. we're going to race again after I get some tuning done on the dyno. So we will see if there is a difference :) I have a lot going on right now, so I may not have time to get to the dyno. Don't forget, I'm also building another car lol. I have a '92 celica all-trac sitting in my back yard right now waiting for an engine. I got my built block and rebuilt head yesterday. It is bored .040 over and cross-hatched, wiseco pistons dished - 6cc 9:1 compression, Eagle H-beam rods, King bearings (main, rod, and thrust) http://members.aol.com/vipmetal09/alltrac22.jpg http://members.aol.com/vipmetal09/alltrac23.jpg http://members.aol.com/vipmetal09/alltrac24.jpg http://members.aol.com/vipmetal09/alltrac25.jpg http://members.aol.com/vipmetal09/alltrac26.jpg 209 SRT 01-29-2006, 03:57 AM that celi that your building is awd turbo right....... rice(er) 01-29-2006, 10:34 AM I have a '92 celica all-trac :eek2: :22yikes: oh damnssssss....very nice! keep us up to date on it. and yes 209, the celica all trac are AWD turbos with another one of toyota's legendary engine, the 3sgte, also found in the mk2 mr2s', a 200+ hp car that weighs 2400-2500 lbs, i dig that, put in a few mods and u be one happy camper :) wethepplebmxer 01-29-2006, 11:48 AM you must know how to drive the shit out of that car... best thing i've seen stock is like 15.1 clawhammer 01-29-2006, 12:08 PM :eek2: :22yikes: oh damnssssss....very nice! keep us up to date on it. and yes 209, the celica all trac are AWD turbos with another one of toyota's legendary engine, the 3sgte, also found in the mk2 mr2s', a 200+ hp car that weighs 2400-2500 lbs, i dig that, put in a few mods and u be one happy camper :) The All-trac weighs a lot more than 2400-2500 pounds. Try 3000-3100 pounds. BullDog71ss 01-29-2006, 12:32 PM *waits for bulldog's reply* Sweeeeeet :iceslolan I figured that's about what would happen if he ran an SS with his car in it's current state. Get it tuned soon dude, then your buddy will have to get more than an intake to keep up. Although, are you sure he had an intake? Cause if that was my car in that race you wouldnt be able to hear your car screaming over my blower. The SS makes a racket with a CAI. Also, is your buddy a member at cobaltss.net or cobaltss.com? I'd also like to add something to that. Even though the SS lost on the lower end, I'm fairly happy with how the SS performed. Think about it, it's lightly modded against a very light sport compact that's got a stout engine and some good modding done(although a tune couldnt hurt at all.) Was there a passenger in your car as well to even the weight out a bit Vip? Oh yeah, is your car still stripped??? I hope not, that's a bit uncomfy for the street, heh. Nice runs man. AWP9521 01-29-2006, 12:43 PM Admittedly I am not an import freak but I still appreciate a fine running car of any type. Would be very interesting after you get the tuning dialed in. I like the ARP bolts on the rods, definitely top of the line. My only question is why not on the mains too? Would make that bottom end more bulletproof unless ARP doesn't make main bolts for it yet. Yeah, all he had on his car was an Injen intake... it was pretty :) . I could hear the s/c whine when he was beside me.. but I guess the camera didn't pick it up because of where it was located. I'm sure if the cameraman was in my car you would have been able to hear it. Yeah, he's a member at cobaltss.net. Well right now, I only have 2 real mods done to the car. Just the CAI and the Power FC. My exhaust is cut off right now just after the resonator.. that's why it's so loud. I have the rear hatch plastics and rear seats taken out still from when I went to the track (the hatch plastics and seats weigh next to nothing).. so yeah I've been kind of lazy about putting them back in lol. But I did have the turbo from my alltrac sitting in the back which weighs more than twice the weight of the back seats and hatch plastics.. that thing is heavy! So it was kind of balanced out. No, there wasn't a passenger in my car. Because of the lack of torque in my car, when I add a passenger it's like running on 3 cylinders lol.. you can feel the difference. We agreed to have the cameraman in his car because of his hp and huge torque advantage.. and the fact that his car is faster than mine stock for stock anyway. But we shall run again... and next time we'll switch passengers just to see what happens... I'm sure I would have gotten slaughtered with a passenger. BullDog71ss 01-29-2006, 04:58 PM have a third car camera man........ Gotta have a car that can somewhat keep up with the two racing though, if the camera car falls too far back, 3rd person camera views are a bit crappy. -The Stig- 01-29-2006, 06:06 PM Camera car always has to be the faster of the two cars racing... it's got to be able to at least stay with the action fairly easy to keep it interesting. If I lived closer I'd volunteer the Z28 for Camera duties... it'd be fun. 2000LS1Z28 01-29-2006, 09:09 PM I wanna see 209 SRT and Bulldog race. You had to remove hoses after the turbo to install the intake? I just have to comment on this.......I read a mag alittle while back on the best 05 and the worst........no offence bulldog but the cobalt was rated the worst in reliabilty.........but I still like the cobalt.......but as for the srt it wasnt even in the mag.....why I dont know..... Looking at JD Power’s rating the SRT-4 did better on body and Interior quality, but the Cobalt did better when it came to mechanical quality. Do you remember what the problems the mag said the Cobalt had? The SRT-4 may have been listed under Neon or it may not have been listed because it wasn’t new for 2005. BullDog71ss 02-02-2006, 04:27 PM No offense taken. What can I say..it's a Chevy. One day Chevy will learn that bubblegum and popsicle sticks are not good materials to hold a vehicle together. 209 SRT 02-03-2006, 02:55 AM ^^^^ this guy has a sense of humor I like that.........lol 209 SRT 02-03-2006, 03:07 AM You had to remove hoses after the turbo to install the intake? vac lines, and pcv hoses, and I replaced the stock intercooler pipes..... I think it was the consumers guide for cars or something like that......the best and worst cars to get for 05 was the title I think.......but yeah the cobalt was rated to be the least reliable.....as for the neon it wasnt even in thier at all....... BullDog71ss 02-03-2006, 10:40 AM I think it was the consumers guide for cars or something like that......the best and worst cars to get for 05 was the title I think.......but yeah the cobalt was rated to be the least reliable.....as for the neon it wasnt even in thier at all....... Probabely because the Neon was coming to an end at that point in time, so it really wasnt worth mentioning. Plus it was pretty much no different than the year before it. Elk 02-03-2006, 03:24 PM vac lines, and pcv hoses, and I replaced the stock intercooler pipes..... Why did the intercooler pipes need to be replaced? G-man422 02-03-2006, 03:34 PM cool vids bro. clawhammer 02-03-2006, 07:14 PM Vip, did you visit the dyno yet? 209 SRT 02-04-2006, 03:47 AM Probabely because the Neon was coming to an end at that point in time, so it really wasnt worth mentioning. Plus it was pretty much no different than the year before it. I think your right...... 209 SRT 02-04-2006, 03:49 AM Why did the intercooler pipes need to be replaced? cause I wanted to upgrade to a hardpipe instead of rubber cause rubber flexes and hardpipes hold more boost than rubber does........... Vip09 02-04-2006, 05:14 AM Vip, did you visit the dyno yet? Nope, I've been putting all my time and money into the all-trac. The GT-S will have to wait its turn lol wethepplebmxer 02-04-2006, 12:28 PM so anybody what dodge plans to do to replace the neon (and more importantly the SRT-4)? THe chalenger will be out soon but that can hardly be called a replacement for the skittle. civicHBsi91 02-04-2006, 01:22 PM The srt's to me atleast have been infamous for boost/vacuum leaks all my friends with them have had boost/vacuum leak problems...one friend even losing his brakes from a leak. they had to go cheap somewhere...why do you think its a 20,000 car? wethepplebmxer 02-05-2006, 12:56 AM ^^ There are some 20k cars that are good. price doesn't always dictate quality. It's a cheaper car because it's Domestic, was built on an existing platform, has little appearance changes from a regular neon and of course it's built off of an econo-car, making the production price lower to begin with. I don't know anybody who owns one, but i figured i'd stick up for the skittle on this one because i have heard plenty of good things about them. I could be wrong tho, who knows... i'm still wondering what dodge does next...? 209 SRT 02-05-2006, 03:10 AM The srt's to me atleast have been infamous for boost/vacuum leaks all my friends with them have had boost/vacuum leak problems...one friend even losing his brakes from a leak. they had to go cheap somewhere...why do you think its a 20,000 car? the reason why they seem notorious for boost leaks/vacuum leak is because none of the owners leave the car stock........their always messin with stuff and not finishing it.......but out of all the people I know that has an srt I am the only one with the leaks........ 209 SRT 02-05-2006, 03:11 AM Nope, I've been putting all my time and money into the all-trac. Hass Autoworks is making 325whp on a stock 2zz motor in an MR2 spyder that's daily driven. They can handle it fine, but you better know how to tune or it's going to blow up just like any other engine would if it was pushed near its limits on a mediocre tune.
