Why'd they discontinue the Celica??uiony 01-28-2006, 04:49 PM Well the title says my question. What was wrong with it, why'd they replace it with the Tc?? 91 Celica St 01-28-2006, 10:53 PM use the search button its been asked before....and y are u posting hre if ur a honda guy? blakscorpion21 01-28-2006, 11:36 PM because toyota is run by soccer moms who would rather have 4 diffrent models of suv than 1 sports car. LaYzIeNoY 01-29-2006, 12:53 AM ya, they claimed low sales but i think thats BS 91 Celica St 01-29-2006, 01:32 AM ^exactly i see more cleicas around then rsx's teg type r's and 00-05 civis LaYzIeNoY 01-29-2006, 03:41 PM some one on a different forum threw out this idea which may prove right or wrong in time he said that toyota probably did this as a marketing gimic, it's like this toyota wants to increase sales of the Tc, the celica its in company competition is taking up the sales as it is more popular, so what to do, remove the car that has already had its day in the sun and thus taking away the competition then after the Tc has taken hold you could bring back the celica if you really wanted for the die hard fans that would still purchase it if i'm not mistaken the Tc uses the same motor that the celica did, also they are producing performance parts of it, TRD already released a supercharger for it that toyota will still warranty uiony 01-29-2006, 10:18 PM use the search button its been asked before....and y are u posting hre if ur a honda guy? Point is? I can't like the Celica cause I drive a civic? LaYzIeNoY 01-29-2006, 10:25 PM it's usually just that people that have one type of car, like that car and the only others they like as much are cars like the skyline that they aren't able to get wants you to use the search because certain questions haev been asked alot and this is just addding threads back, i figure that since its herer give you the info calicelica 01-30-2006, 12:24 AM We're such a Toyota-centric crowd :) civic sis are good affordable street cars nonetheless. I like them sometimes. The most common "reason" for celica discontinuation is bc they cheated WRC, thus losing its best venue/ image as a reliable rally car, thus low sales. but then Supra stopped shortly thereafter. Toyota is definitely changing direction, following the law of supply and demand. Frankly, NOT all drivers are enthusiast like we are. Most wanted cheap, high MPG, user-friendly urban strollers! which are the scions. Tc got a supercharger allright, and??? Toyota is coming out w/ "Yaris" this year, and a lot more Hybrids. Even that "PJ Cruiser" Toyota jeep coming out isn't as-powerful-as-that-should-be. The only hopelight for more powerful car in the future is the 2007 Supra, which most likely to go head-to-head in sales and performance with the new upcoming Nissan GT-R. Not to mention the existence of other competing powercar makers already desperately wanting attention (such as the upcoming BMW M6, etc). I seriously think Toyota will lose. Its a lot like Nintendo vs. Playstation rivalry really... and Supra is Nintendo. Hard-ass-core fans, egocentric, dominating its own world, but we all know everyone else have PS2. calicelica 01-30-2006, 12:54 AM shit Im cynical. Imma go back to bed now. 91 Celica St 01-30-2006, 01:03 AM ^ ha nice no the scion uses a 2az-fe, its a nice little engine, can atauclly be built with more power than the 2zz-ge, but ionly say that sicne its a much larger engine, and theres no replacment for dispalcment blakscorpion21 01-30-2006, 10:43 AM the supercharged scion is slow for a sc car. it got beat by the n/a 06 civic si. if toyota cant even outdo a stock civic with their best sports car supercharged, thats saying something. they should release a new car similar to the celica and just call it the gt4. steal some of the evo/sti popularity. calicelica 01-31-2006, 07:53 PM Believe it or not, I rough-sketched a future GT-Four concept for my portfolio I'm sending this april. That was like, such a desperate attempt... lol. blakscorpion21 02-01-2006, 01:28 PM Believe it or not, I rough-sketched a future GT-Four concept for my portfolio I'm sending this april. That was like, such a desperate attempt... lol. cool, id like to see it. calicelica 02-06-2006, 02:31 AM cool, id like to see it. Most of my designs are still flat, 2-D sketches. I tried posting a pic, but don't know how :). I'm rendering some of the ones I particularly like into perspective line-drawings in this 1-2 weeks...hoping to make monochromes out of. When I'm done, Ill post the finished results in some pix hostings - or @ least at myspace.com the GT-four sketch is 1 out of 3 rally cars I wanted to present in my portfolio, but most likely will only have time to develop 1-2. The other ones a renault and an evo... Ill ask for all of your opinions of course blakscorpion21 02-06-2006, 01:51 PM Most of my designs are still flat, 2-D sketches. Ill ask for all of your opinions of course just upload them on photobucket.com and post the img #. have u seen the new evo concept? it is ugly as f#@$. all the cars are going with theese square front ends and i fing hate it. calicelica 02-07-2006, 05:08 AM Im not really sure why the front square trend persists. Im guessing that contemporary designer/tuner always tried to keep that oldschool tuned s13 or smoothed-skyline square looks... yeah I saw the evo concept. It might seem square-ish, but for rally purposes its actually quite aerodynamic. Zero lift up to a point & after all they kinda need all that air to come inside the grill. But its trying too much to look like a scion tc/new skyline hybrid...not that authentic really. shoot, evo viii has waaay more oomph' to its look. But nothing beats the originality of gen 5 & gen 7 celica design. Even during their time respectively, there was no other cars that look like 'em (and ever will be). vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
