i was coming home from the bowling alley tonight with a buddy of mine at around 11:30-12:00 and we ended up coming to an intersection with a newer GT mustang sitting at it waiting for the light. as i roll up next to him the light goes green and he takes off, tires squealing as he leaves me. so i take off and keep near him and eventually we catch a light together. As far as i could tell he was stock and there weren't many cars out seeing as how it was late, so i figured i'd give it a go. As we're waiting for the light, i held my rpms at about 2000 rpm and as the light went green i dumped the clutch and jumped off the just line slightly ahead and he takes off too. he stayed right there through first and we both scream our tires into second at around the same time and i pulled ahead to where his bumper is at my side mirror, as we go into third I go a little further ahead to maybe 1/2 a car length and held it right about there through 3rd to almost 100mph before we get caught at a light with a couple ofother cars. so the guy looks over and gives me a "good job" kind of nod and we drive on, both of us with one car in front of us.

At around 45-50 mph the car ahead of the mustang pulls into a Wendy's and the car ahead of me pulls into the left turning lane at a traffic light so we both slow down and go into a lower gear, i was in 3rd, and we both have open lanes ahead of us. Like ESP we both just start running again, and again through third we stayed right next to each other he shifted a few hundred rpm before me and as i went into 4th gear i jumped ahead of him. we ran to probably 120mph(i didn't really look at the speedo) and I ended up about 3/4 of a car lenth ahead before we shut down. shortly after, he turns off and goes down a side road and gives me a "beep, beep".

i was surpsrised i managed to hold my own like i did seeing as how i've seen times for those cars in the low 14's. it seemed to me like it came down to better shifting on my part, kinda like the guy didn't know his car very well. all in all it was fun though and it's been a long time since i had a race i thought was worth posting.

i know that 9 out of 10 times i go against a newer GT i'd probably get a spanking but that's the great thing about the street, anything can happen. if the guy in the mustang could have gotten better traction off the line and on his 1-2 shift he would have probably taken the lead there and kept it, he really railed it into second gear and spun tire for little longet than i did. and on the 2-3 shift i never took my foot off the gas (power shifted) whereas he was driving normal. win or lose it was fun, thanks for the compliments guys.

i went to the track one time about a year ago but i didn't manage anything worth bragging about, i was having mass airflow sensor issues which caused bad hesitation past 4,000 rpm and i had 19" rims with balding tires so i wasn't really track ready, all my buddies kind of made the plans last minute so i didn't have time to put my 17's on and i didn't even get to remove my spare tire or jack. i hit a 15.03@94 mph running like poo. my 60' times were like 2.3-2.5(yeah the tires were that bald, and i was nervous seeing as it was my first test and tune). if my 60' times were better i would have been in high 14's and that's with the big rims and shit, now that i have new tires, a new MAFS and the timing advance i think i could bring that time down considerably. Lebanon Valley speedway opens in April, i'll have some 1/4 mile slips worth posting then and hopefully vids too.

thanks, i wish i had a video cam that would let me get vids onto my computer so i could show everybody. my friend in the passenger seat kept saying "damn i wish we had a video cam"

i have so much respect for your generation 6 speed maximas, they're alot faster than everyone thinks, and they won't realise it until they race one

thanks man, these cars tend to go unappreciated. it's great to have had a car for 2 and a half years and still have it surprise me like that. it really is one hell of a car.

i can't think of a better way to spend the money. this fuckin' bike's a beast, but you know that. i actually got to take it out today for a few hours. it was a whopping 50 degrees out, which was a nice change of pace from the 20 degree weather we've been having. what about you, how's your zixxer been treatin' ya?

Nice kill. I wouldn't have thought that those maximas were that fast.

well they put down around the same wheel hp ( around 220whp ) but the max weights alittle bit more. they're trap speeds are a few mph off from each other though so a good driver matched up with a bad driver, it should be a good race.

so whats the specs on the 99-04 gts..........and whats the difference from a gt and a mach 1................anyone.........maybe you tat buddy old pal....

BP2K2Max
01-29-2006, 03:25 AM
specs on the GT's are 260 hp 300 ft-lbs tq, i'm not sure on the weight, i think it's like 3300. my car's 255 hp 246 tq and my registration has me listed at 3220 lbs.
and mustang GT's are sohc, mach 1's are DOHC and make 300-something hp.

^^^^ interesting.........I new those stangs were pushin some good number...

Good kill. You have the 3.5 liter motor i'm assuming?

yup. 3.5L 6 speed.

GForce957
01-30-2006, 12:39 AM
whats the difference between your maxima and the new one?

BP2K2Max
01-30-2006, 01:15 AM
the new ones have 10 more hp 10 more ft-lbs of tq and weigh about 300 lbs more. they also have full independent suspension instead of the multi link rear beams that the 95-03 maxima's have.

209 SRT
01-30-2006, 03:47 AM
^^^^^ so weighing 300 pounds more than your car and it having 10 more hp and 10 tq you should be about even if not a little faster.......

BP2K2Max
01-30-2006, 02:06 PM
^ that's an ongoing debate in the maxima community, but yeah i'd say that's about right.

TatII
01-30-2006, 04:42 PM
from what the test figures show, the last of the 5th gen's which happens to be the 3.5 liter 6 speed ones are faster then the 6th gen pig's. but i would still take the 6th gen over the 5th. its just so much more pimp :smokin:
