Vacuum Shifter?

That's not a technical name or anything, but i was driving down to the beach one day, and this eclipse was driving next to me. Everytime he shifted it sounded different than normal manuals do. I can't think of a better way to put in than a vacuum. It's that same sound that all of the cars have in Fast and the Furious. What is that? This is probably a stupid question, but i don't know. Thanks alot.

i think you're hearing a BOV (blow-off valve) which releases pressure in the turbocharger and intercooler
