Eighties Contest Entry: 1983 Ford Escort MK2 Belga - Smokin' !

Hello there!

I 'd think I d make a progress thread about what I m making, and subsequentially enter it in the 80s competition.

It's the Belga Escort, driven by Droogmans, a car that participated in the '83 condroz Rallye. I m using the revell Kit for it, adding a renaissance decalsheet.

I did some very tiny modifications to the kit itself, I changed the front lights as you might see. What did I do, I cut the backing off the light parts (which was like flat plastic) and added the lightparts from the partbox behind.

Also, I made a nicer minilite rim then the one on the kit, which I thought wouldn't look nice at all. It might not be perfectly true to the original, but IMO the condroz rallye car used wider and slightly bigger minilite wheels then let's say, the rac car depicted on the revell box. Or atleast that's what I make myself to believe! :)

On with the pictures.

keep in mind these pics don't show the original rims and tyres, it's a remade version, close to original tho.

that's it for now, comments or criticism is always welcomed!

off to a good start. how did you do the rims? was it with styrene sheet or tube? also i think pansport rims i have from a racing Celica 1600 would have worked just as well but this seems to do the trick. any pics of the decal sheet? which kit is the base? not familiar with it.

Impressive stuff on the wheels and lights - especially the lights I'd never thought to do that, will certainly try it on my next Mk2 build!
On the Revell kit the front track (width between the wheels) is too narrow, and the rear suspension is a standard road-car rather than a proper 5-link floating set-up.
The body shape is great though, keep it up!

Excellent!! Nice to see a MKII being built. Paint looks very good and I like the wheel mod - you're right to do it coz the asphalt spec Escort ran much wider tyres (you knew that anyway!) - I'll keep a close eye on this biuld, I have the Vatanen version in my pile to do. :)

The "reference pics" i posted were with other rims then the original, which are basically enlarged minilites, what I did. I took the interior from fujimi rover mini rims, sanded the outer edge and added a lip, which was taken from cutting the inside out of some fujimi rim, I think called Linea sports, quite nice rims, that's why i got some more!
this trial rim will be cast and then I got two fronts and two rears.

Base kit is just the revell escort http://www.nimpex.de/shop/images/artikel/RE_07374.jpg

transkit is renaissance.
Basically decals and extra lightpods.

here s a pic http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/bigfrit/PICT0008.jpg

Oh and you're quite right, i actually think the new rims on it might just be panasports.

and thanks for the nice comments, on the front track, I ll fix that too, probably. But the rear suspention will remain as it is, as I lack good references on that area and it's not really to be seen , is it?

Bye!

Oli (hopefully some more progress once this cold gets over!)
