Got some questions

I'm kinda new to 240sx's, never owned one, never drove one. But i've seen/read probably every 240sx site on the internet. I'm thinking about getting a 95-98 probably 95. Is there any place where they have a lot of 240sx's for sale? I can't find one around here with kinda low miles and standard without it being like $7,500

What are my options in getting better performance out of the car..like getting the SR20DET, turbo, or just getting stuff like new exhaust, intake, headers, intercooler, etc.. But also keep in mind that I don't have that much experience with working on cars.

If I just get new stuff like exhaust, headers, etc., about how much HP gain would I have? And what parts should I get?

The SR20DET is illegal in the US, right? And so it wouldn't pass emmissions?

is this possible???? skyline GTR engine in a 240sx???

Where would I be able to get a SR20DET? And about how much money would it be?

check sites like www.ebay.com
www.cars.com
www.autotrader.com
www.classifieds2000.com
also we just had a thread recently about where to find cars so if you can find that then there are a good amount of sites listed in there for you.

Now as for performance, people have different views as to either keeping the stock KA or swapping in an SR. A turbocharged KA would have a lot of torque and give it the "muscle car" kinda feel. The SR is a smoother high revving race inspired engine. There are a good amount of performance parts for both engines.

If you got the usual I/H/E (Intake/Headers/Exhaust) then it can depend on the quality of the manufacturers product. Like they say, "you get what you pay for". But with these 3 things, this is just an estimate but I would guess maybe around 15-25 peak hp.

The SR20DET is not illegal here in the US and it can pass emissions. They have different saftey standards over in japan so they don't care what comes out the exhaust pipe. Here, it is a little more strict and you need to limit the amount of smog that you are producing. There are plenty of SR's here in the states that pass emissions. Just make sure you are using a catalytic converter and not just running straight pipe. Before you go get your car tested, replacing the catalytic converter with a new one can help with smog a little bit. I've also heard that replacing the spark plugs before you go can help as well but I'm not sure.

Yes it is possible to put a skyline engine into a 240 SX. There has been debate on this board as to if it can be done easily or not. There are the different models of the skyline engine though and some fit easier than others (this is all my opinion about the fitments, others might think differntly), such as unstable-hybrids has an RB20DET powered 240 SX that they said didn't require a whole lot of modifications to make it fit. A bigger engine such as the monster RB26DETT, then you might have a problem fitting that into the engine bay. It will require extensive modification to get it to work. (once again, my opinion)

As for places to buy the SR20DET, here are some sites that can get one for you:
Neishlin Motors (http://www.neishlinmotors.com/)
Heavy Throttle Performance (www.srswap.com)
Unstable Hybrids (www.unstable-hybrids.com )
Infinite Motorsports (http://infinitemotorsports.net )
Jspec Auto (http://www.jspecauto.com )
Venus Auto (http://www.venus-auto.com)
Street Imports (www.streetimports.com )
Import Auto Salvage (www.importautosalvage.com )
TP Automotive (www.tpautomotive.com )
Nippon Motors (www.nippon-motors.com )

Good Luck :)
