350/350 turbo tranny swap into 305/700R4 1984 caprice classic sedanmyhemiram03 01-23-2006, 06:16 PM i currently have a 1984 caprice classic 4 door. the car was used once as an enduro race car and is basicaly spotless. it currently has the 305 4bbl and 700R4 combo and i was looking to go the 350/350 tubo route since this is what all the other caprices at the track run. can the 350 turbo bolt in place :banghead: or do i need to buy a crossmember? i wont be running the computer and i am also using a cable operated b@m shifter that works for the 350 turbo. any input is greatly appreciated!:grinyes: silicon212 01-23-2006, 08:12 PM The crossmember on the TH350 and 700R4 are the same, but driveshaft lengths are different with the 700R4 being slightly longer and requiring a shorter driveshaft. They did make those cars with TH350s factory and you can go to a junkyard and get the appropriate driveshaft. Any driveshaft from a 1977-81 with a TH200/C (NOT TH200-4R) or TH350 will work in your car, as will a driveshaft for a <='86 with TH200C/350. If you find yourself in first gear a lot, you might want to consider leaving the 700R4 in there. It has a bitchin' first gear ratio for getting off corners fast, as well as hellish acceleration. It effectively shortens your final drive ratio when in 1st. Second is also geared lower than in the TH350. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
